Kvyat beating Ricciardo in the points is very unrepresentative of the way the season panned out imo. Both had their moments, a few problems and DNFs, but by and large when there were big points to take Ricciardo was the stronger by a decent margin, he also had a clear advantage on qualifying pace and fastest laps. Kvyat managed to build up points by scoring pretty much every time Ricciardo had a problem. And that's a skill in itself - but he wasn't as close to Danny as the final table makes it appear.

My opinion isn't worth much, but I love doing these rankings every year. To me, there were 8 drivers that really stood out above the rest. The top 2 are in a class of their own and the next 6 can be swapped in nearly any order. If I were handing out awards... Driver of the year: Sebastian Vettel. Rookie of the year: Max Verstappen. Worst driver of the year: Kimi Raikkonen. The sport would be better off without RAI, MAS, STE, MAL, and ERI judging by this year's performances. We could use some more fresh faces.

1. Vettel (Excluding Bahrain and Mexico he drove a perfect season. One for the ages. Demolished RAI)

2. Hamilton (Lost the #1 spot with how he ended the year)

3. Grosjean (Dominated his teammate by a larger margin than perhaps anybody in recent history. Scored a podium in a severely underfunded car)

4. Perez (Ready for another chance in 1 of the big teams. Improved a lot throughout the season. I hope Renault make him their new lead driver)

5. Rosberg (Finished strong. In such a dominant car it is hard to rank him. He nearly missed out on 2nd in the WDC)

6. Ricciardo (His talent is obvious, but his car was not up to snuff)

7. Verstappen (The most impressive teenager in F1's history if you ask me)

8. Kyvat (Had a much better season than I expected. Kept RIC honest and then some)

9. Bottas (Took a step back in this season. Lacked an impressive drive. Really needs that first win)

10. Nazr (Very nice rookie season in a severely underfunded car. If not for MV & CS people would be gushing over him, IMO)

11. Button (Hard to judge. Car was awful. Seemed to be decent when the car ran. Beat ALO in points)

12. Hulkenburg (Disappointing. Still can't seem to get over that hump)

13. Alonso (Hard to judge. None of his drives really stood out for me)

14. Sainz (Hard to judge. Decent looking rookie. Will learn a lot more next season about him)

15. Rossi (The best Manor driver of the season. Stepping in like he did and beating Stevens is really impressive with the current lack of testing)

16. Massa (No longer has the talent to compete on a week to week basis, sadly)

17. Erickson (Standard pay driver)

18. Maldonaldo (Standard pay driver that is involved in too many accidents. GRO made him look like a F4 driver)

19. Kimi (One of the worst drives in a top car in recent history. The fact that Ferrari kept him is embarrassing. 3 podiums in the 2nd best car on the grid)

20. Stevens (Standard pay driver)

21. Merhi (Lacks the necessary talent to compete with even the standard pay drivers)
