I have a feeling Ferrari sent their lawyers to bark at Mercedes as the earlier statement may have given the impression thar Ferrari's is or was involved.

I don't think the "sharing" has been established just yet. At this point he is only alleged to have copied the IP.

Will change my above post.

He's (allegedly) shared it with himself. It's information he's allowed as a part of Mercedes(/whatever) but not as a private individual. He doesn't have to pass it on to a third party to share it. Oddly enough.

Yes, the king is in the altogether.

Profitability?

It's a jab at Ferrari's veto.

I find it pretty funny, that the alleged data were from the Hungarian GP - which, from Mercedes' point of view, was the worst race of the season. :)

They're likely to be more interested in weaknesses than strengths.

The fact of creation creates copyright (in general terms) not any other process, and if done in a corporate setting the copyright almost certainly resides with the corporation due to T&Cs in the contract of employment. I believe that the act of copying copyrighted material in and of itself is not illegal, it is the 'use' of the copy that causes the problem.

Having proof of the fact of creation is necessary to enforce copyright.

Not sure he is good talent if he is stealing stuff.

Actually, it shows even far lesser talent that he appears to have gotten himself caught!!!

Who wants an engineer whose talent is depending upon the utilization of gearboxes, etc, that are extremely dependent on electronics and software,  but then gets himself caught doing something tin a manner that is so easily detected that most anyone should know better??

OTOH, perhaps his lack of talent for hiding and working with electronic tricks and other "special programs" (if u know what I mean) from detection form the FIA and so forth, was why he was not doing so well at Merc, so he decided to seek employment elsewhere?

Not knowing nothing about it at all except what I read, just sorta of wondering

Perhaps another indication of a lack of talent??

If you have proof or a reputable source that Ferrari or any other team instigated it then supply it and discuss it, if not it's conjecture and there are no similarities with the McLaren case.

You are right with regard to Ferraris role but to say the are NO similarities is ludicrous as there was obviously alleged data theft in both cases.

Exactly. We don't know. We do know what Ferrari and to a lesser extent McLaren have said but Stepney hasn't said anything publicly except mutter "I woz framed" and then leave it at that.....

Well, he had plenty of time to put up or shut up. He obviously chose the latter so the logical conclusion would be he hadn't much to say that would put him in a better light.

Unless you want to put your tin foil hat on and believe that Ferrari or other parties unknown sent men in dark suits over to leave a horse's head in his bed.

Surely a lot of that depends on the type of person you are. A fighter might defend themselves, a pragmatist might see the bigger picture and move on....

This has become a really strange story. And not one that I'm even sure now has legs.

Yes. But a pragmatist wouldn't hint "i woz framed" and allegedly write a book and then not publish it. He'd keep quiet and actually move on. This seems like a fighter who belatedly realized he was the guilty party after all and no amount of spin would whitewash that.....
