Alonso and track observers from yesterday confirmed that new PU have ongoing work not only to deployment but also to harvesting.

There were reports yesterday that the car was nervous on braking not only on acceleration, so it seems there is much more electric power and they need time to learn how to control it and use it correctly. Instability under braking comes to tell us that Honda is improving not only MGU-H but also MGU-K I guess.

I wonder if it's the same spec engine they have replaced or upgraded? has anyone got the full Matt Morris interview?

I wonder if it's the same spec engine they have replaced or upgraded? has anyone got the full Matt Morris interview?

Found this:

"We had a good day with regard to reliability again," added Director of Engineering, Matt Morris, "enjoying two days with no serious reliability issues has been a real positive.

"Today we spent most of the morning performing aero characterisation work, which required a lot of the instrumentation on the car. Although this part of the testing is time-consuming, we have gained confidence that the chassis is delivering as expected, such that we can now move on to looking to exploit the performance potential.

"This afternoon we spent some time doing basic set-up work, running through control systems and characterising the chassis, as a continuation of yesterday's work with Jenson. We also ran through a number of different engine modes on the power unit to check functionality and integration, which went very smoothly and provided us with useful data. Most of the day was spent running at the harder end of tyre compound scale, so we shouldn't read too much into the absolute lap times.

"We completed everything we had planned for our programme for today, and a little bit more besides, so, overall, another very positive day of running under our belts."

"Today's testing target was to do continuous laps at a steady pace so we could gauge the harvest and deployment of the power unit, and perform all energy management system checks," revealed Satoshi Nakamura, Honda R&D Co Ltd's principal engineer. "Thanks to the team's hard work and Fernando's focus in the cockpit, the 119 laps on track gave us plenty of feedback to finish today's planned running programme early. I am pleased to say that we will have lots of data to look through tonight and tomorrow onwards."

I wonder what do they measure with this device? It didn`t look like it is only heat... and they runs it for the second day already.

well if they did change the engine overnight like it was mentioned, maybe this is a different spec. and they are meassuring to compare with the previous one, so to answer your question, i have no idea what they are meassuring :-)

it looks pitot sensor, to measure fluid flow velocity. I suppose to design the monkey seat and with added 2 tubes from wastegate increase DF.

I think it's just a bit of extra support - that wing brace is strong

There`s no additional cooling duct on the front brake covers today.

Probably just a simple physical guage that you read when it gets back, like an old school tyre pressure gauge.

That monkey seat just keeps coming off and on and off, I think PP is really unconvinced of the effectiveness of it. Wouldn't be surprised if he thinks it is just unnecessary extra weight.

Flow and temperature?  Presumably to correlate with dyno readings and to give another source of info about how much energy is being extracted by the MGUH?

Now, you can see measuring the temp of gasses flow from monkey seat. The clamp in exhaust was to measure velocity of  exhaust gasses.

I have a feeling new McLaren structure and way of working is missing that bit that brings many interesting ideas to the track even though not always working ones.

For example why wouldn`t McLaren tested something like Mercedes knife bargeboards from yesterday..? They already have that designed and tested on the MP4-X concept a year ago. Instead they have the same basic design for third year in row without even having cuts that all the grid have.

Remember this?

m14.jpg

New Mercedes already adopted similar idea of guiding the airflow below the floor trough knife-bargeboards.

I`m just wondering...

How is that front wing staying attached. Incredible job by team.

I'm still hoping the team will go out and beat the 1.25.2 they set last year.

AMuS ticker is reporting build-up of smoke at the end of the pit lane and mechanics running after with fire extinguishers.

Aren't they still running conservative mapping until the new part they want to change comes next week?.  I wouldn't read anything into those speed traps until they tell us they've got the parts on the car.

Honda already said that this Mark1 2 or xy is BS and this is more or less their Melbourne-spec. The only question is how conservative they run it right now. Obviously not too conservative when it caught fire. Damn GP2 engine.
