If the engine is really fixed, I want to see it in the back of Red Bull for 2017
Ron, Rob, Patrick, Rom and Me won't allow that to happen.
Suck it up Christian Horner

This thread is not as fun without the extreme doom and gloom.
There's the whole season for that.

Only the facts, in summary– JB has said they are still working on aero correlation and Boullier has mentioned some reliability gremlins need to be ironed out with the new parts added since first test. JB said no set-up work as yet, and he's not happy with the balance atm. To pour cold water on it, Fred said too early to judge the upgrades but EB said Fred's feedback was positive even if his day was limited.
Renault were moving into Quali runs, as were Merc, Kmag was only 2 tenths faster than JB on softs and 1.2 sec on the super-softs. Kmags run was 3 laps while JB did 9 for best time.
When was the last time JB was merely satisfied with the balance ?
Posted 03 March 2016 - 06:58
I just hope the batmobil doesn't go bang while trying for performance today/tomorrow.
Posted 03 March 2016 - 07:12
Who said they were trying for performance? I think they will truly use tests as tests, no hotlaps...
Just trying parts, different settings, engine maps, ride heights etcetc... Getting as much time to develop freely as possible in best preperation to pick a path, and get on that path in Aus
There is a Japanese article citing a Honda 'source' that today and tomorrow will be about performance. Then again, there is another 'source' claiming more aero parts are going on and today will be about correlation again.

I wish we had an option to downvote on this forum
Seriously. It's like you're inside my head. Don't trip. It's dark and hard to see in there.
Been wishing for downvote capability a lot lately.

i know!, but in this case it doesnt matter, the ref point clearly illustrates the difference between the two wings, better pics has since arrived and for sure they tested a higher df wing
Of course it is. I don`t know why some of us expecting some visual difference at rear wing which is already fairly new to the team. It`s like over the course of the season - just the depth is changing, and maybe the profile of the main plane and teh flap.
The rear wing McLaren runed yesterday has a more high downforce profile, and a slight changes at the lower part showed on this comparison.

2009?
Before then I'd say. There were many interviews in during the first half of that season when Button was complaining about not having found the balance but it all came together in qualifying.
I'm beginning to think Mr. Button could be unbalanced himself.

Alonso did 3 instalation laps with cameras mounted lower to record the front and rear tire deformations at motion.

When was the last time JB was merely satisfied with the balance ?
When was the last time a team was satisfied with the performance of their car?
Obviously the point of F1 is to continually chase better and better balance and performance. It never ends. Therefore they are never truly satisfied.
JB is a particularly focused and eloquent exponent of this. But its a problem for some people, who perceive it as a weakness and a fussiness, rather than something they're all trying to do.

We could only guess that the new floor will be only tested tomorrow... I`ll be really impressed if McLaren manage to change it during the lunch break.

So that's what happened to Whitmarsh.

This thread is such a serene place to be now that finally Mclaren Honda have got their act together. All the incessant talk about Manor beating them, Haas getting ahead of them, the jibes at Alonso hopefully are a thing of past. Constructive criticism is absolutely necessary even for a team like Mercedes which cannot do anything wrong at the moment but the amount of muck that was thrown at Honda in their very first year of return was absolutely cringe worthy.
Long way to go for Honda and Mclaren to get back to competing at the front but they have shown tremendous resolve, commitment, determination and hard work. Look at the number of pieces coming on car everyday. Easily the busiest team in terms of updates on the car. Honda as well have taken a systematic approach of trying to go step by step bedding in new components phase by phase basis. Honda deserves a lot of credit for doing such a great job over the winter cos many of the so called pundits/media outlets and commentators had written them off even before the preseason testing had begun. All those talks about engine going bonkers on dyno kept some journalist busy in the summer inviting those click-baits from non suspecting fans.
Haas mentioned yesterday that Formula one is incredibly complex and for Honda who were coming back after a long hiatus and with everything new naturally needed time to get their bearings right. This season is all about building the foundation for next year when competing at the front may just become a reality. Till then onwards and upwards
Posted 03 March 2016 - 09:50
It might be why they have done so many laps, maybe have early lunch to change components.

They'll def bolt the new floor on the car today. Esp with it being Fred's last day in the car. They didn't express it out overnight for fun.
yep i think so to, also to compare previous spec to new spec, im sure they cant afford to wait for tomorrow

Translated from Japanese by BingHonda contact: generally resolve reliability issues. The following (days' focus will be) performance #F1 #f1jp http://bit.ly/1RqlZrr via @AUTOSPORT_web
There is a Japanese article citing a Honda 'source' that today and tomorrow will be about performance. Then again, there is another 'source' claiming more aero parts are going on and today will be about correlation again.
haha that's merely the Japanese writer's impression or more like hope, not proper info and quote at all. The writer merely sees 90 laps for 1st day and 120 laps for 2nd day and says "looks like reliability is sorted". Hasegawa says nothing of that sort.
It's always like that, writers have "story" already and put quotes to fit that puzzle, so it's full of "must be like this, must have been that". Generally jp journos like to put positive spin, quite often Arai's quote was used for that and made him look funny, causing mocking/bashing havoc.
when the writer is talking about detailed info about what happened he is reliable but when it comes to prospect or interpretation, it's quite meh.
it's rather nice for "f1 writer" account/site to look for Japanese article but that's what happens when u just put it into google translate in haste.
What Hasegawa is saying is that altho hasnt done setup work yet at all, he's not happy as long as driver is not pleased for whatever reason, run 121 laps but shudnt be off guard about that but at least improved from last year, etc.

As I mentioned a few days ago, weather conditions wont help (Very high winds in the whole region) ; so most teams will try to check all aero or performance updates ASAP. So we might get to see Alonsos car "transformed" during lunch break

At this point it seems that Honda made same good progress during the winter so maybe the worst is over
