The balance of what is written seems to indicate it was 4 hours in 1967, the year I am interested in.

Does anyone know whether the event Regulations required competing cars to have been road registered in their country of origin or something similar and carry registration plates/tags?

From Gary Gove: "...The Bud Moore Mercurys, and the Shelby Mustangs were genuine race cars, as was Mark's Camaro, compared to our cars.  John Mello is correct, the Penske Camaros did not have chassis numbers...."

From Robert Barg: "...I was at Sebring in 67 crewing for Rick Stevens with his 1293 mini in the T/A race - #49 I think.

I'm guessing that a few T/A cars were registered, plated, and driven to the track and home in the early days. My 67 ex Mo Carter camaro was driven on the Shell 4000 in early 67,
but I can't remember when I bought it if it had registration papers...."

So no, it doesn't seem that road registration was a requirement.

Lots of photos of the Sebring 4 Hour Trans Am here (18 pages), mixed in with photos from the 12 Hour.

Thanks for that.

What I was investigating is why the works cooper S (Hopkirk/Rhodes) went to Sebring (and stayed in the USA) with its UK registration (and whether it was a 4th new shell carrying that same registration or a rebuilt/race converted 3rd (rally car) shell.

The fact that the registration number was much later on re-issued in the UK is a separate can of worms I'm not involved in.
