nice to see new drivers.

I think next year there could  be a quite different grid to this year.

Uruguayan Mauricio Lambiris will replace Ferenc Ficza at Zengo after an appendectomy.

So much for that -.-

Ouch. A real pity for Guerrieri. He really deserved that pole.

Heartbreak part 2 for Guerrieri in race 1. Great recovery for López from 18th to 5th.

The Eurosport commentator keeps on saying that Guerrieri is the reigning Súper TC2000 champion when he is not...

It was nice to see Guerrieri competing on international level again, he was a pretty solid driver in junior formulae.

Shame the Citroen army cracked Norbi's defense in race 2, he is desperate for a win after a difficult season start.

The Argentine media is reporting that Volvo may add a third car for Néstor Girolami at Motegi. The twice Súper TC2000 champion tested for the manufacturer at Río Hondo yesterday improving more than a second on Thed Björk's qualy time.

So it's confirmed Girolami will replace Robert Dahlgren at Motegi. Volvo keeps only two cars on track.

Why do Volvo keep on changing their drivers?

Dahlgren is a title contender in STCC, so he will finish the season in Sweden and the last two rounds clash with the WTCC calendar.

Added to that, it might be a good way to test Girolami for 2017

So Lopez is champion IF WTCC doesn't go to Thailand, watch them go to Thailand now after all the celebrations

If Thailand is canned then good to see Jose Maria Lopez take the title for a 3rd time, a good exit for an undefeafed champion in the series who is moving on to other racing adventures. Jose Maria has really put Yvan Muller in his shadow in these three years despite the strength in Yvan, he had no answer for Jose Maria in all three seasons. Shows the quality and class that Jose Maria has, if only the USF1 team thing hadn't been such a fake, we could of seen Jose Maria dominating Formula One by now.

Hardly, given his rather average record in F3000 and GP2!  He has excelled in small FWD touring cars and has dominated the WTCC.

But it doesn't mean he will be better than average in a single seater.  Let's see if he manages to do OK in Formula E.

Girolami can't race at China due to prior commitments in Brazil's Stock Car V8, hence Ekblom's call-up

Kinda hoping to see the racers get stuck into it for both races, something similar to tcr international, only drivers don't just cut the corners and take full advantage of a mistake or an excuse to do it.

The driving standards in TCR are so low, I decided to avoid the live broadcast after the first few races, but judging by the highlights there's no improvement.

Anyway, the first race was really entertaining, on one hand I'm happy for Volvo's first victory, but on the other hand I'm gutted Norbi lost another first place in a close battle.

Some incidents get punished, but it's like the BTCC only on an international stage. all cars are equal the racing is hard and tough and everyone is out for themselves. A perfect place for the likes of Dusan Borkovic .

Surprised to read up of Volvo getting it's first win with Thed Bjork, i was perhaps expecting them to come forward next year with Citreon out the way.

Jose Maria Lopez takes race 2 win in China and the Volvo's are where i expected them to be, solidly in the points but not in a threatening position.

I think there is a difference between hard and tough racing and chaos caused by bad driving. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to cheer for B3 Racing too, but they were the victims of these low driving standards many times which was very frustrating to watch.

i just saw the full replay of race 1, Norbert had that coming with the way he was behaving around Thed, he pretty much crowded Thed into a braking area and the stewards warned Norbert about that not long after, on the final lap he had to know that Thed was going to stop Norbert from trying the same thing and almost lost 2nd to Yvan. Poor Nicky got half a Honda rear bumper wrapped around the front of his car.

This is interesting, there are strong rumours that Eurosport Events plans to drop the current TC1 regulations within two years and they want to adopt the Class One (DTM/Super GT) silhouette car regulations

It would be harder to make predictions, yes. :p

But I think a fused DTM - SuperGT grid would be awesome with a good calendar (I mean racing mainly on short twisty circuits certainly not helps good racing, I think that's one of the biggest problems in DTM), so It could work, we'll see.

I don't think what rules being used it the most important, as long as they don't end up like they are now, with a ruleset that isn't used anywhere else. Either TCR og Class One sounds like a good idea.

Only Volvo and Honda remain. I find it hard to take this class seriously with those 2 short races. When do they bite the bullet and end this class?

No doubt that this set of rules was a step in the wrong direction for WTCC. Hopefully Class One will be used from 2018 and onwards. Either that or TCR. They must have a set of rules that are used other places as well, if not, there won't be enough drivers.

As I calculete WTCC could have 10-12 regular competitor next year.

3 (or 2) factory Honda
3 (or 2) factory Volvo
1 to 5 SLR Citroen (Bennani almost sure, Chilton maybe)
0 to 3 RML Cruze (Coronel is the most possible, maybe Chilton and maybe an All-Inkl car)
0 to 2 private Honda (if Zengő find sponsors after this seasons performance)

So 10-12 cars.

My Tipps for 2018:

- fusion with DTM (Class One, an ITC like world series)  without Volvo

- fusion with TCR International, and continue az an FIA world cup

- dream scenario: all DTM/Super-GT competitors (Audi, BMW, Honda, Mercedes, Nissan, Toyota) enter a 2-3 car factory team to the WTCC, but imho less than 1% chance to that.

So I doubt that the WTCC alone can be succesfull with Class One rules. Volvo don't have a Class One Car, only Honda, and I doubt that VW group, Mercedes, BMW, Toyota, Nissan/Renault group want to enter/lease enough cars for the WTCC.

They may continue with the TC1 rules in the next 2-4 seasons, but it requires way more support for privateers by the series owner. There are still 5 SLR Citroen, 5-6 Civic, 5-6 RML Cruze and at least 3 Volvo. But it could works only if the organizer racionalize the costs (calendar) and increase the attention (with better race traks, more races, etc.) and as I wrote earlies give a lot of money for the private teams. like Dorna did in MotoGP.

Coronel is looking to buy a Citroen to be run by ROAL (Citroen has opened the possibilities for other teams than SLR to run the cars). But as you say the perspective doesn't look good: we will have 3 Hondas and apparently 3 Volvos too. That should be sure. Ribeiro hinted to a new manufacturer joining in 2017 (supposed to be Kia) but things have been very quiet on that front. Maybe Shapovalov manages to keep running at least one Lada as a privateer? Let's suppose Bennani, Chilton and Demoustier stay at SLR and Munnich giving Thompson a full time ride. Filippi is likely to remain as his main sponsor (Oscaro) is also an important sponsor of the championship. Zengo's season has been dismal, I don't know if it's convenient for them to keep on running two cars. No perspectives of new privateers joining either.

Chilton said some days ago Citroen not sell any car, all allowed to run only by SLR. So if coronel want to race with a citroen, he have to leave ROAL.

Chilton also said, they has no money for a Citroen, so he might race with his Cruze or go to Blancplan GT..

No new manufacturer joining in 2017. Ribiero hinted a lot of bs in the last years.

Fillippi will race in TCR next year (old news).

Coronel and Touring Car Times said otherwise: "Citroën’s decision to open up the availability of the cars to all privateer teams goes beyond their original intention for just one team, expected to be Sébastien Loeb Racing, to run the cars in 2017." http://www.touringca...switch-in-2017/

I can't find any info on Filippi going to TCR. It's Valente, with Lada leaving, who will most likely join TCR as he was very close to do so with Craft-Bamboo this year before he got the call from the Russians.
