Still selling in the rest of the world even though the same trick is being played.VW did stop the sale of 2015 diesels in November and withdrew their application for the sale of 2016 diesels in the US, not sure if that is still in effect or not.

The thing is though that VWs diesels in question are probably genuinely clean enough to pass emissions tests in the rest of the world. They just couldn't justify the expense of making their units clean enough for the United states which is far stricter.

Germans "Auto Motor und Sport" did an in-depth test with British "Emissions Analytics". Unfortunately only in German. The test proved that VW's latest Golf, the Golf 7, had the least emissions of all tested cars.

Now if that had been a British journal testing a suspect British marque and finding it blameless, there would immediately be accusations of partiality.
But we all know the Germans are scrupulously honest. Except for VW of course.

They tested Golf with new diesel EA288. The new diesel is not problematic. You should look at Audi with the old problematic ea189 engine.

Wouldn't Formula One be more interesting due to the diesel emissions scandal for Volkswagen?
I mean, if you have problems with your diesel image, wouldn't working with small-capacity hybrid turbos be a smart thing to do? VW have small-capacity turbos as well as hybrids in their line-up, so they have actual products to promote, too.
Just sayin'.

That would depend on VW's own strategy for getting out of the Diesel mess. It wouldn't make sense to make the most of hybrids if VW has decided that the long term technology to replace Diesels as their eco powertrain will be electric for example, or fuel cell.
