After an exciting season that was dulled down by the unfortunate loss of Justin Wilson, Indycar and their fans crawl into the long offseason for rumors to fly.

Congrats to Scott Dixon as your 2015 Verizon Indycar Series Champion!

indycar-sonoma-2015-race-winner-and-seri

The series should get an updated logo for 2016 with Verizon updating their logo

.photo.jpg

But 2016 will have many stories like the 100th running of the INDIANAPOLIS 500!!

Also Indycar will be getting a new president because in case you didn't already know, Derrick Walker resigned after the Sonoma finale.

Confirmed are two new events on the 2016 schedule, Road America (woo!) and Boston on Labor Day Weekend. However those dates come at the expense of Fontana.

Other possible rounds are Phoenix and maybe Mexico City at AHR.

And it's a possibility that NOLA is on the chopping block.

****I will have a driver chart and schedule when I find/receive one****

So, what will this years silly season entail?  :stoned:

I understood Miles spoke about Phoenix at the gala like it's gonna happen. Though surprisingly only motorsport-total.com has reported as if it was a confirmation.

Though I remember reading that one ISC track needs to host IndyCar to avoid antitrust prosecution. With Fontana gone, that'd probably be Phoenix.

Well they better hope phoenix will host a race, otherwise it's gonna be a quite season on the oval front...

The calendar silly season is going to be the real interest for me at the moment.

Phoenix slots in provisionally on April 3, two weeks before Long Beach.

Hey, but I thought that's what some people wanted. Because y'know, ovals are so totally too dangerous and everything... ;)

I guess the only positive of this extremely long off season is we don't have the misery of knowing how many days it is till the first race, seeing as the calendar hasn't even been published yet. :p

I remember for this year there was that failed attempt to have a season opener in Brazil. Plus there was talk about international race/s in warmer climates in February/March. Any idea on whether we can expect anything there?

Poke OHNO will happen. I have it on fairly good authority. For me, Kentucky needs to come back though.

Not much talk about the international races last months. Mexico City was said to be in talks, though somewhere I read it wouldn't happen.

ISC has no anti-trust issues.  What you've read is not correct.   While there aren't any ISC anti-trust issues, many if not most of the ISC tracks host more non NASCAR events than NASCAR events.  Fontana hosts half a dozen or so club sports car events, local/regional drag races, drifting, time trials/autocross and even karting events.  While the largest revenue generators of the tracks happen to be NASCAR events, the number of track rentals and self promoted local/regional events far outnumber anything else.

Though it's not been confirmed the local Phoenix press is talking like it's a done deal and local track management seems pretty positive.  It was a popular race at one time that made a lot of money.  They are probably hoping to bring some of that back.  My guess is that it will get 20k or so the first year then attendance will fall pretty dramatically.  I doubt it lasts more than 3-5 years without some sort of subsidy.  While I enjoy it, there is hardly a market for that racing these days.

I'd like too, and it's been mentioned in next year's holiday plans...

You boys better get your tix and hotels now.  Some hotel prices are already stupid expensive but there are still some fairly reasonable.  If we go we'll likely get an RV in suburban Chicago and drive down.

Still, it's so often said when people are hoping for the Glen, MIS, Homestead, that it's not gonna happen because of ISC. IndyCar is different from the local events at the ISC tracks, it's a potential rival for NASCAR. Maybe it's not correct but that's been said to be the reason for one ISC track in IndyCar, to prevent claiming IndyCar can't race on an ISC track.

God I'd love to go to Indy, but as a poor student from Europe, I'm not sure I'm capable of farting that much money out... :/

As far as the schedule goes, Phoenix seems all but confirmed, but with Fontana gone, we really need Pocono and Milwaukee to stay. The latter is at bigger risk from what I understand.

Well, next year I'm on the road in our behemoth Rv for +/- three months, and we definitely have plans for a stop at a race in both NASCAR and IndyCar, we just haven't locked in which ones.

Personally, I'm just hoping that Dracone gets a full time ride to take some pressure off Sato.

In a perfect world they'd run Nationwide and Indycar on a Saturday-Sunday ticket.

Looking for something to keep your Indycar fix going during the off-season? Try this:

(There was a better quality one up earlier but it's gone now. Bits and pieces of the whole thing are up on YouTube, though.)

*Sorry to kill the boners. But this highlights just about everything that's wrong with IndyCar at the moment. Any middle-management job at 16th & Georgetown is a poisoned chalice, I wouldn't wish it upon my enemies.

Got my tickets booked at a chain hotel for the Indy 500x100 long weekend. It's on the other side of town, but on the other hand is opposite a Steak 'n' Shake.

Ah I see, back to bashing the ownership again. Walker's quick to point the finger at everyone else, especially when it comes to changing the equipment on the track. Perhaps if he'd allowed adequate testing and conducted more stringent technical checks, the aerokits wouldn't have become a safety issue and so unpopular with both the team owners and fans? Talking of being difficult to work with, why did he decide to go with the committee method in race control and keep overriding Beaux Barfield's decisions, leading to the latter's departure? I didn't glean anything new from that video, other than playing the blame game.

To be honest, the aerokit issue at Indy alone should have been enough to get him fired.

The one and only, as long as I'm on this board. :p

Honestly, there is no end to the supply of Karen Gillan images. For example: think that Indycar's rules make it too much like Mario Kart? There's a Karen Gillan pic for that:

kg_mario.jpg

And just think--by the time the off-season's over, we'll have more than half-a-year's worth of new ones, which is longer than the season lasts, so we should be good. :p
