2016 Verizon Indycar Series Silly Season Thread!

But if it brings in more engine manufacturers having a standard aero kit, then so be it.
Will be great to get back to more underbody aero and let the cars follow each other better. Mind you, the racing has been pretty good this year!

That's the thing, the racing has still been top notch almost everywhere. I wasn't too convinced by the aero kits when they were announced, but now we've got them, I'm almost sad to see them go (but if it gets more engine manufacturers in, I won't complain!).

I think for a series like IndyCar at this stage, aero kits are not very good. A third manufacture would be quite more important. But there is nothing in the line I think...

It's pointless to have different kits when they are frozen/balanced/whatever anyway. Make it a proper COMPETITION or just screw it...

I've never liked the Aero kit idea, all it does is put one ahead of the other and more often than not Honda have been behind. i don't even know why such an idea was even put forward into what is essentially a spec series. I can't wait to see these kits either get balanced or removed. The sooner the better.

Except it isn't "spec". Look what happened with Lotus in 2012. Then Chevrolet have continued to dominate, because they've produced the better equipment, and supply the best teams with the best drivers.
If it was as tightly controlled as some people claim, Chevy wouldn't be running away with 80% of the wins.

Seems to me like it is probably a sensible decision. Says the focus on the '18 kit will be more about the underside downforce and being 'cleaner' while maintaining current performance levels, so I am all for it. Aero kits were fun but a little unnecessary I think.
Also, aren't they evaluating head protection ideas for '18 too? Said they would include the 'latest safety enhancements'

Total OT but;
Dunno if y'all have heard about Robby Gordon's parents...

The aero kits haven't really done much other than make the cars look slightly different depending on the engine inside, but even then they've been very difficult to tell apart. It would make sense to go back to a standard kit and let the engines make the difference.

Yep looks like a murder-suicide.
His dad and dad's wife.
Awful.

I did: http://losangeles.cb...murder-suicide/
The coroner’s office has identified the victims as Robert and Sharon Gordon. While the cause of their deaths remain under investigation, detectives said it appears to have been a murder-suicide incident.
Sad news indeed.

Too late for 2016, but I think for 2017 it would be best if the Indycar 'thread' was called something like 2017 Indycar Season chat, then it could encompass all things Indycar.
This started off as a silly season thread last year, and we are still posting about anything and everything 12 months later!

The entire IndyCar season is silly, hence in IndyCar the silly season never ends!

Yes, a seperate thread for the Gordon news makes sense.
The 2016 Indycar season isn't quite over yet, we can make the 2017 thread next week

There's the search function or starting a new thread.

That's not a bad idea. The news about Gordon's parents isn't really Indycar related though.

Well, there's your mistake everyone: you're expecting something related to IndyCar to make sense.

What, you don't think I used search ?
I did. Anyway...what's so wrong about posting the news in here?
His family and his Indycar roots extend right up to yesterday when Beccy Gordon gave birth to RHR's 3rd child
Seeing as only you and 'Mr.Fastidious' are objecting, I find it totally acceptable.

Their previous deals were to the end of 2017, so this is 3 years added on to those contracts.

Still, I'm surprised RHR wants to commit for that long, especially given AA's form this year.

Perhaps they're giving him a pay raise.

According to a Boston TV report, apparently it's profitable to be the promoter of a failed race, as long as you don't get caught.
