If there's one Grand Prix that I wouldn't mind seeing the last of, it's the Spanish.

Don't get me wrong: there should be a Grande Épreuve on the Iberian peninsula, certainly, but the Circuit de Catalunya has produced a long line of boring races over the past 25 years.

A quick glance over the lap charts shows about one (yes: 1) genuine overtaking manoeuvre for the lead: Mansell passing Berger on lap 20 of the 1991 race... and that was about it.

But the Spanish (or Catalan?) government is right not to pay the fees asked by B.C. Ecclestone and his CVC friends.

I am not really saying MotoGP costs as much to host as F1, what I am saying is that hosting it is probably the second most expensive event a race track could host I suppose.

So if you host both as COTA, Silverstone and Catalunya do, you might need a few quid!

But if your business is running a race track and it's bringing enough customers through the door to pay it's way then your going to be able to afford it. The problem with F1 is that the fees are being raised to a level that is no longer sustainable. Also does motogp take the trackside advertising revenue or does that go to the circuit?

I think they do actually Clater as you see the self same repeated endlessly ads trackside as you do in F1.

People forget that Bernie actually ran the 500GP series i the late 90's when it was getting far bigger crowds than F1!

Then it was sold to the Spanish Dorna nad has become pretty much a national championship with a few decent riders from abroad thrown in!
