Bear with me on this! I have an old PC circa 2007 can I run GP legends? Is it downloadable off the net? I assume this is the game that has had updates with cars/tracks etc from the 70s/80s?

Thanks

Yes you can run it on your computer. Game was released 1998 and the computers back then...
Of course, there are mods and updates that might bring your computer on it's knees, but that is in your hands.

No, you can not download it from the net for free, but you can buy it at Amazon.

I don't think so. There's plenty of tracks, probably even modern ones, but I don't recall 1970/1980 mods on GPL. Most of them are from the 1960s I believe.

The games that has plenty of 1970/1980 F1 mods is rFactor (rFactor 1). rFactor is old now, but would be much heavier on your PC than GPL, though a PC from that era could run it provided there's a decent graphics card. There's also 1970/1980 F1 cars for Assetto Corsa which is a very recent game that almost certainly wouldn't run in your computer.

GPL has had user based mods done for many time periods. There are also many tracks of high quality from the user community.

Oh, man. I still have my original GPL disc (bought it at Best Buy right after it came out), and I'm sure I can dig up some discs I burned with a bunch of add on tracks, skins, and probably the Thundercars, '65, and '68 mods with that program that let you switch between them. I should dig some of that out and see if I can get it running on a modern computer - where'd that wheel and pedal setup go again?

I've managed to get an old PC from work after a discussion with people on here a few weeks ago about PC gaming (even though they said don't get one from work, it'll be useless!), a five year old Dell Optiplex 780 (I think?) Intel Core 2, etc etc. Am hoping i'll at least be able to run GPL, GP4, F1 99-02 etc etc, the older games, if I can find a graphics card that'll work with it. I think I'm quickly working out that it's no the easiest thing in the world really. I went to PC World the other day and stood for about ten minutes staring at some of the gaming PCs, if only. My wife would disown me if I spent a thousand quid on one of those, but man it makes you wonder why sim racing fans buy consoles really. Looked awesome.

You can spend a lot less than that and have a very good multi purpose PC chap.

Mine cost just under 500 quid and can play Dirt Rally and the like perfectly well and AC.

All you are usually paying for with a grand is a serious motherboard, processor and 400 quids worth of graphics card ( the most expensive and vital part for top end gaming). The rest is all stuff you can very easily add. SSD for Windows for example, they are dirt cheap.

What does peeve me now is that most gaming PC's come without a DVD drive, meaning you have to buy an external and that is nowhere near as easy to use as it should be! lol
