...anyone else received this as a Christmas gift? Thoughts?

Happy New Year by the way...

No, but I'm thinking of buying it. Opinions from others appreciated.

I’m tempted too, mainly to see the included documentary on von Trips which according to the blurb on Amazon contains a lot of previously-unseen material from von Trips’ personal cine films:

Documentary on Wolfgang Von Trips - the Ferrari racing driver who Chris followed as a youngster and who subsequently died racing at the Italian Grand Prix in 1961 - made up entirely of Von Trips personal cine films, never seen before in this way. There will be new music by Chris for the documentary. All 4 discs are housed within a 70 page coffee-table book, which includes photographs and paintings from Chris Rea.

I'd seen bits of the original La Passione film, heard the CD's so was curious about the stuff not earlier released, incl. the Von Trips reels as you say. The footage is quite cool but the narration is pretty-darn-unbearable. Contentwise it's is a bit dreamy and wishy washy and the chap narrating it should stick with bedtime stories and soft-porn audio... That's not to say it's not watchable, but I did, actually, switch the audio off when I watched it earlier today ;)

Indeed, the footage is good, but I agree that the narrator Ben Blythe is dreary. Dire-Rea.....
