Simon, I happen to have been the owner of the Lotus which I purchased from Mr. Bertorelli. When I had the car I had tried to trace its previous owners, and if I am not mistaken, there was a popular driver involved, possibly Roy Pierpoint. I do not recall Mr. Dixon. It would be interesting to re-read the communication(s) sent through MACRA. Perhaps we could exchange emails.I am glad to learn that the car is in the hands of your Italian friend.

Dee-Jay Racing was a limited company (wound up in 1978). A company of that name supplied anti-roll bars to the Alexander tuning company for sale in their catalogue. Possible connection to Maidstone, Kent? The car in the picture looks well presented.

Dee-Jay Racing was run by Derek J Waters, who had a workshop in High Barnet in North London, out of which he ran the Eleven and a number of other cars before that. I had the pleasure of visiting Derek a few months ago to film an interview about his time in racing, which included spells with the Normand Racing F2 team, spannering on Rindt's Brabham F2 in his debut year and being mechanic to Jacques Maglia in F2 in 1965.

Absolutely sure Michael. I now believe I know the full history of "our" car, the issue is the two others, one of which has the original DVLA registration number (which is has nothing at all to do with the car to which it is attached today) the other is a rebuild of a Lotus Seven type car which was given the chassis number.
If you want to call me I will give you the full rundown, as things stand this is best discussed off thread.
No worries, Simon, will do. I'm beginning to believe that someone got the history of the Lotus Eleven you refer to mixed up with the 15...

What I do think has happened is that the two histories have cross fertilised Michael, the George Dixon Lotus Eleven has/had nothing whatever to do with Roy Pierpoint, but I think the fact that both cars appear been sold by the same company at one point in their histories have led people to add details that are not correct.
In fact, thinking about this I wonder if the dates align such that the 11 was taken in part-ex for the 15?

As I'd recently been in touch with Simon Hadfield about this, I thought I'd share a bit more George Dixon/Lotus info:
Whilst sorting through some old family photos a while back I can across three b/w negatives that, when I had them printed up, showed a Lotus 15 having some mods carried out. These were based around fitting a Lotus twincam engine and involved changes to frame members, pedal box, etc. Research turned up that it was a George Dixon car, ex Roy Pierpoint, chassis 622-3.
A better look at the picture confirmed the George Dixon ownership as - on the back of one of the wooded lock-up garage doors - was painted "GSD" initials.
There's a connection through family members to Lincoln and to a repair garage there (although I'm now unable to find out which one) so I can only assume the negatives came about through that.

In post #42 the registration BVL 99C was mentioned. It is a Lincoln registration from 1965 and here is a link to a low-res picture of George Dixon's Ford engined Fifteen at Edwinstowe sometime in 1966.

Tremendous photograph, Charles! As I have only some b/w pictures it's great to see it in colour.
