Maybe they'll actually use them during the season? :p

Crucially, Pirelli also says that cars will have to be to "2015 specification," adding that "no test parts allowed, no car/set-up testing is possible."

That will presumably include preventing the teams from trying an upgraded engine spec.

Vandoorne will also drive for McLaren. Data will be shared to the other teams.

How could Pirelli and the FIA ensure that no test parts are to be used?

If it is worded as no updates then not even the software can be changed from a previously used 2015 version. As the no update rules would apply to the hardware and software! But no doubt they have there legal departments going over the rules... And exploiting all the grey, but there maybe isn't a lot to gain from wet weather running?

It is quite unlikely the FIA know the cars in every detail.

Wet tyre test at Paul Ricard, does this mean everyone sits in the pits until it's dry?

Meh, if Jo Bauer was able to spot a 1 cm difference on the Ferrari barge boards in 1999, I think the FIA will have pretty decent knowledge of what cars they have in front of their eyes ;)

Without updates, the McLaren can only test two laps before any moving or non-moving part of the car fails.

Luckily they've sent the safety car towards the south of France as well so they can at least complete some laps.

Paul Ricard always sparks bittersweet memories in me, its a superb track but the memory of Elio is quite saddening.

Will there be streams of this test to watch?

We wont even get streams for public tests. It's not even known if it is a public test. So no never.

@pirellisport
We’re using a 3.5-kilometre lap, with runs of 10 laps from each team. The cars will run 10s apart to maintain consistent conditions #F1

After the 1st run on last years tyres: (from http://directo.laf1.es/ )

Now we have them all back to the pits , we took the opportunity to update the timesheets . Red Bull leads with a symbolic 1'11''5 , 1'11''6 McLaren , Ferrari 1'13''8 . 10:07 Pirelli confirms that the experimental tires are unchecked. So we've seen in the last stint ( the blue ) were the compounds of last season .

Sprinklers turned on then cars back out on the development tyres:

McLaren has improved to the 1'10''0 , Red Bull and Ferrari until 1'10''1 to 1'11''7 .

Kimi is a good driver but not the guy you want to test wet weather tyres. He is awful in wet conditions.

What? "Magic" Vandoorne fastest in the shitty MP4-30? We switch to ALO if he fears to be kicked out for Vandoorne:

The times are meaningless but the only info available about the different set of tyres they are testing...

Fun fact: the top speed. Ferrari reaches 298 km / hour in the Mistral straight . McLaren , Red Bull 's 295 , 294. In the second sector , Red Bull calls the shots with 258. Followed Ferrari ( 255) and McLaren ( 251 ) .

The latest batch of tyres seem quicker:

Ricciardo has already broken the 1'10 barrier. 1'09''3 for the Australian. It is not the only loss that mark, Vandoorne is 1'09''5. Raikkonen, in 1'10''0

Proof of all teams follow exactly the same script work is the evolution of his time. When a car drops a second (as in this batch), the rest also.

Raikkonen joins the club of 1'09: 1'09''7 to him, four tenths behind Red Bull. Times are irrelevant, but it is interesting that all cars are moving in a very similar records.

They'd rather focus on the 2016 challengers at the factory. Especially since all data gathered today will be fed back to ALL teams anyway.

Pirelli only wanted 3 cars, I guess any more and the cars will sweep the water off the track quicker than the sprinklers can reapply it.

They wanted as much cars as possible and as much current drivers as possible for a better feedback.

Any chance of a link to something by Pirelli?

All teams invited
http://www.motorspor...at-paul-ricard/

Though it was stated later that they dont want to run 3 cars at the same time for the reason FPV GTHO gave

http://www.dailymail...-tyre-test.html

And a bit later Hembery gave an interview were he demanded that teams should use their current drivers (will give the link if I find it)

Edit: Here you go

"They clearly push things to another level, that's why they are world champions. You want the quickest car and the most extreme conditions and the best drivers in the world. You would want their feedback," he said.

Eventhough he also said that it is probably less important for the wet tyre tests than for the normal tests.

As usual somehow they dont know themselves what they wanted...

They are ahead of the program so it is likely they will finish early. Ferrari have arranged a media session with Raikkonen for 4pm local time.

Current lap count:

1. Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull 1'08"713 - 81

2º Stoffel Vandoorne McLaren 1'09"131 +00"418 - 81

3º Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari 1'09"637 +00"924 - 81

Green flag again. Raikkonen out to track and Ricciardo. Vandoorne is enclosed in boxes.
McLaren arrived at the Pit- Lane on crane. Our Twitter (@ LaF1es ) you will find a picture of the moment. The McLaren was fine , so there has been no contact with the walls . Everything points to mechanical

Curiously , both Raikkonen and Ricciardo have painted purple sector as a ride back to the pits. Kimi has done in the first set , where he has also established all the Speed- Trap tenth after passing by some 300 kilometers / hour. The Australian Red Bull has flown in the second set , where he also held the Speed- Trap at 258 km / hour.

maybe something to do with the next comment

Operators Paul Ricard fences installed at the entrance of pit lane ... we would not be surprised if this means that the first day of practice has already reached its conclusion.

Interestingly the timing looks like it has the wrong transponders so swap Red Bull and McLaren round so McLaren takes the quickest time in theat case :p

1º Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull 1'08"713 - 88

2º Stoffel Vandoorne McLaren 1'09"131 +00"418 - 99
