So, I'm planning my third visit to the track for F1. This time I want to try the whole camping thing.
I don't really want to buy a tent, I don't do camping really, so I am considering a hired put up tent. It doesn't look like I can do this in the main 'woodland' site, unless I want to spend a fortune on the 'glamping' option, which I don't. Anyone here have experience of the 'campingf1' site near copse?

Also, tickets - how has anyone found the village stand blocks for viewing? They're about my budget this year.

The woodlands site looks better facilitated and fun though, anyone with experience of this?

Where is a good place to go to view the action that is reletively cheap. It will be my first time at a F1 race (although not a Silverstone).

I stayed at Woodlands last year and it was OK - I survived (I hate camping, the things I do for F1 :( )
As campsites go it was pretty good, certainly better than I expected - the facilities are excellent really and the entertainment zone was lively, always something going on. and very close to the circuit so not far too walk back to after a long day (there are shuttles back as well but I missed all of those).

Village is good in that you see the cars for a decent length of time (but I prefer it for WEC than F1 as it is great watching the speed difference for the LMP cars as they accelerate onto the Wellington straight). Also Village B is undercover which is always useful at Silverstone (not sure about Village A? I know Farm next to them are open and I would guess from the price it is as well)

Where is a good place to go to view the action that is reletively cheap. It will be my first time at a F1 race (although not a Silverstone).

For all 3 days general admission is £155, open stands £250 and covered stands £299 (some are more though such as pit straight, club and part of Becketts)
Personally I don't like the general admission at Silverstone, there is always fencing in the way and it is absolutely packed on race day from very early in the best spots) if I was going for a £250 seat I would pick Club A or Vale (then your pretty close to the podium for the end if you want to go on track? and its a pretty good view from there as well). The undercover grandstand I would probably pick Luffield or Abbey (the latter should give a (distant) view of the grid for pre-race build up)
Friday is roving grandstands for everyone (and Saturday has roving grandstands for grandstand ticket holders) so make full use of that and try out as many grandstands as you can. (It surprises me a little how many people just want to sit in their seat all 3 days and not move about - each to their own I guess).

There are some cheaper alternatives as I find the £250 + £80ish camping + food + travel is more than I'm willing to pay (I can go to Barcelona or Monza for a similar price, including flights and a hotel as opposed to a tent) However there are ways to fit Silverstone in as well:

There is the in-season test being held on the Tuesday & Wednesday after the race. The in-season tests are usually open to the public and tickets were about £20 last time it was held. Much better value and I will definitely go for that.

Or if you want to experience the race weekend for a fraction of the cost (£40 camping last year was all it cost) but don't mind some hard work (and a lot of fun) volunteer for this: https://www.silverst...ome-race-maker/

This year will be my 40th GP in the UK, and I have camped/caravanned at about 35 of them.
I have camped at most of the local temporary campsites and I find Woodlands is the best and it just gets better every year, not cheap but worth it for me cos' I like the whole weekend experience. This year we are in Club A, the last few years we did Vale, Friday for us is always lap of the circuit day, when we walk round and view from all our favourite spots, Saturday, well there's only place to be for Qually and that's Beckets.

The new layout is not as simple to walk around anymore...

Correct but it is still possible and there are parts of the infield you can access, it just means you clock up a couple more miles.

Did anyone else get an email from Silverstone yesterday offering free MotoGP and BTCC tickets?

It isn't. They just say that to get people to book faster and at the higher prices.

Going to Silverstone for this years race (1st time), the ticket numbers I got are 0163 and 0164. Does it mean it is on the first row? Good or bad for Vale?
