What?!
Have they found oil in their backyard? Isn't Tombazis one of the biggest "name" aero guys around?

Shocked me, odd that on the link to their Facebook site there is nothing, I hope it's not a case of their account being hacked

It's there now
NIKOLAS TOMBAZIS JOINS MANOR F1 TEAM AS CHIEF AERODYNAMICIST
The Manor F1 Team is pleased to announce the appointment of Nikolas Tombazis to the role of Chief Aerodynamicist.
Nikolas needs no introduction, having enjoyed a long and accomplished career in Formula 1. His first Aerodynamicist role was with Benetton Formula in 1992, progressing to Chief Aerodynamicist the following year, a position he went on to hold with both Scuderia Ferrari and McLaren. Latterly, his remit has been more wide-ranging, focusing on the broader perspective of car design. In 2005 he became McLaren’s Project Chief Director, prior to returning to Maranello for a nine-year spell as Chief Designer.
Nikolas commences his role with immediate effect and under the leadership of Technical Director John McQuilliam.
John McQuilliam, Technical Director, Manor F1 Team
“I am delighted to announce Nikolas in the position of Chief Aerodynamicist. I believe this appointment will help to amplify the efforts of a very talented design team that, in recent years, has not had the opportunity to showcase the full extent of their experience and capabilities. I am confident that, together with our new Mercedes power unit and Williams gearbox and technical partnership, our new aero structure will provide us with the strength to design and develop consistently competitive racing cars to help steer us towards our long-term ambitions.”
Nikolas Tombazis
“I am very happy to be joining the Manor F1 Team at this exciting time in its development. The team has impressive plans and is investing in all the right areas to achieve its on-track ambitions, so I am very much looking forward to being part of that journey. The existing design team is already very strong and I look forward to working with a great group of people to make the most of the opportunities that lie ahead to help us progress through the field over the next few seasons.”

He used to be. Many people are blaming the fundamental weaknesses of the Ferrari aero on him. Although people who are leaving Ferrari are usually doing well elsewhereWhat?!

It's actually a more interesting step from Tombazis' point of view given that he's not even worked for a midfield team before.

Good job Manor!

Not related exactly to aero, but sometimes "big names" go to backmarker teams for whatever - new opportunity/career. Gascoyne joined Lotus/Caterham and Pat Symonds Manor. But it doesn't mean they can singlehandedly perform a major turnaround in a small team's performance.

Nice signing.

“Regarding to our discussions with Rio Haryanto and his management, we are pleased to confirm that the Ministry of Youth and Sport of The Republic of Indonesia will guarantee a payment of 15 (fifteen) Million Euro for Rio Haryanto to compete the 2016 Formula 1 World Championship with the Manor Formula 1 team,” said the letter from Youth and Sports minister Imam Nahrawi
Who gets the other seat?

I thought Manor might be about to fall apart after the Lowdon/Bell/Booth exodus at the end of the year, but that's a pretty impressive statement of intent. It'll be interesting to see how they do this season, would be nice if we have a championship without any real backmarkers (I think Haas will hit the ground running - at the back but in touch, not 2-3s off the field).

Besides having input on some aero updates they may bring during the season I don't see how he can have much to do with this year's car.

He'll obviously only really start making a difference on next year's car directly (not a bad year to aim for with the spec changes) but one thing he'll be useful for this year is in bringing in sponsors/investment. He's well known enough in F1 that I think he helps Manor look more credible when going to sponsors/investors and say they're planning to move on up the grid.

Surely that's not enough. Lucky Haas stuck themselves with Gutierrez. Allows them to take a punt on a marginal figure like Haryanto.

As far as i'm concerned Bob Bell is a top engineer and he worked for them.

Manor have announced on Twitter that they have also completed their crash tests.

Great news - Tombazis only ever produced one car that actually won a world championship, but a lot of times he came very close, and his expertise will hopefully mean clever improvements that won't cost the world to put onto the car - bring on the tests at Jerez
Posted 15 January 2016 - 20:56
If Haryanto gets the seat along with Wehrlein that would mean no Rossi, I doubt he will stay again in GP2, don't want another lost talent like Razia

WTF? Didnt he had a big contribution on the 1994/95 Benetton and the 2000-2004 Ferrari as well? So much actually that Schumacher wanted Mercedes to hire him

Its because apparentely his approach/knowledge is outdated. Thats why Ferrari got a rid off him. Until the mid/end 2000s he was certainly one of the best out there.

That's quite a coup - whatever his weaknesses, he'll bring experience and a sense of confidence about them going forwards.

Not sure Wehrlein has enough money for the seat. It's between Haryanto, Rossi and Stevens I think.
I would have thought Wehrlein will get the seat if Merc want him to have it. I hope it goes to either him or Rossi, who showed enough at the end of last season to deserve a ride for 2016.
What I don't understand is why Mclaren didn't parachute a Honda into the back of the Manor as soon as they could. Then they'd have doubled their valuable Honda running time and had somewhere to put Vandoorne (currently wasted) and Magnussen, now off the books altogether.

Why would they give their closest competitor a free engine?
Posted 15 January 2016 - 22:53
I really do hope they can build on last year, good reliability, growth in funds, but this time with a bit more speed.
It still won't be 'Manor' to me without the Booth Lowdon steering. I hope somehow they come back in some capacity.
Got to hand it to them so far, it's looking and sounding 'real'.
The F1 team is supposed to be changing name, and Booth still owns the separate Manor Motorsport operation, which presumably will be returning to single-seater racing soon. I don't think Booth and Lowdon are going to return, but there shouldn't be cause for ill feeling.

Is seems to look like Wehrlein will get the seat only if they cant find to drivers willing to pay the 10m asking price and with the team now attracting the big names I cant see why not. Next year the car development shood be good now that Tombazis is on the books.

It's always been the case that they were getting a new engine as the deal they had with the FIA for one year old engines was a one of and I'm sure they were told this so it would make sense not to bring a updated chassis last year and thus spend more time developing what was there 2015 chassis into there 2016 one with a merc engine so they could have had more time than most believe they have had.
As a result they could have a good car for a change.

Delighted to announce MANOR RACING: that’s what we’re here for. Full reveal 22/02/16
New branding looks really nice. It's very current - despite what Will Buxton tweeted.
I was quite intrigued to see many of Manor's new sponsors in 2015 were apps and websites, namely Airbnb.
This logo would fit with that direction and in my opinion is on trend with the app community. I hope they develop down this route and gain more sponsorship/partnerships from this huge cool market. One that hasn't really embraced Formula 1 yet.

Posted 19 January 2016 - 16:53
It's stil called Manor? How so?
Manor Racing now, instead of Manor Marussia.
I thought the name was always going to be focused on Manor once they were able to ditch the Marussia. I don't think any other name was even in the mix.

I though that with Lowdon and Booths departure the name Manor was also gone. Especially after Lowdon tweeted thatManor Racing now, instead of Manor Marussia.

Lowdon is probably referring to the junior single seater Manor team. Hence "MM" (Manor Motorsport).

So maybe time for a new adventure? Why not come along too? For any news, just follow MM @realManor
Maybe I missed something.
You're right, I guess they changed their name to Manor Racing, so it's ok.
@realManor is Manor Motorsport
Maybe they continued with the Manor theme for continually, so it doesn't appear as a whole new team again.

So is Manor actually going to significantly up their spend and still come dead last, or are they just making noise about spending a lot so they can trick higher $$$ from their pay drivers? The clever play would be to invest just enough to beat the 107% rule, because the money needed to actually fight against Sauber for 2nd slowest is tens of $Ms more. This is assuming Honda makes a semi-decent engine this year for McLaren.

LWT, the Woolmark and a dash of the logo for Years & Years.
Regardless, I like it. Really distinctive.
