Another Sky HD pack viewer here. No way could I justify a full Sky Sports sub for just the F1. Particularly wouldn't like subsidising the football which holds no interest for me.

Similarly I have BT Sport for the Indycar and other motorsport they show, but at a significant discount after I phoned to give 30 days notice to coincide with the end of the Indycar season.

Maybe those HD viewers make up a significant part of the F1 viewers - harder to sell advertising with a smaller audience...

I said 100,000 viewers in my original post from Sky Sports 1. But apparently in Brazil it got them 477k more viewers, incredible. Can you see there being that many people subscribed by HD pack? I can't really.

If those figures are accurate then I'd expect they would be able to gain back what they lose through people cancelling HD pack by increasing the advertising reach. But who knows.

That seems exceptionally high given Sky's usual viewing figures. But worth remembering it wasn't a normal race, it was a wet crash fest and could have been the championship decider.

Were they extra viewers, or people that would have watched it on Sky Sports F1 anyway but just happened to use Sky Sports 1 since they were already on the channel?

Edit: yes I think that's mainly it. Looking at: https://f1broadcasti...nd-prix-on-sky/

Sky Sports F1’s programme averaged 648k (3.9%), with Sky Sports 1 adding a further 477k (2.8%), the split being 58:42 in the dedicated channel’s favour. Compared with 2014, which was also broadcast exclusively live on Sky, the average is up by 118,000 however it should be noted that 2014’s broadcast was not simulcast on Sky Sports 1.

So maybe it only added that 118,000 or so?

...I think the negativity is overblown against them a bit as it happened against the Spanish broadcasting.

Mmhh, you've never watched Moto GP on Telecinco?

EJ being EJ.. suggesting Lewis will lure Nico into a turn 1 move because Lewis always comes off better in such circumstances. Susie then rightly points out if they collide and both go out, Nico wins the title... so why risk it.  :rotfl:

Listening to Ted suggest that Rosberg is on the defensive because Hamilton was the first one out of the pits for each lap was an absolute joke today, and it's pathetic to see what has happened to him.

He seems to only care about trying to sensationalize everything nowadays instead of giving technical analysis, I know he was never the best but at least he used to try and help out the viewers in anyway.

I guess this also applies to the whole Sky F1 channel and the way they try and make a story out of everything that drives me mad.

Ted used to be be a cult hero with his quirky style...but now his speaks utter bollocks, probably because there is nothing of substance that is interesting him anymore

Re: HD I think most of sky f1's viewers will be the through the HD package as the majority would have taken the plunge in 2012

Can't imagine those who went without have since subscribed because they couldn't live without what sky offer

Yeah that was quite clever. Not as annoying as I expected it to be.

How much discount did you get? I need to call them this week to 'cancel'.

£10 per month discount and free HD, so I'm currently paying £11.99 per month.

After I explained I was only interested in Indycar, they figured out a discount to bring the yearly price to the same as if I needed to resubscribe for the 2017 season and re-activate on the Sky card. But this assumed they cancelled HD, and I would have needed to phone up and add HD back at my expense when the season started.

The figures were right, but I said I wasn't looking forward to having to wait in a phone queue again to add the HD next year, so I came across as quite indifferent to it but said I'd take the deal if they could throw in free HD now. She checked with her supervisor and they agreed. It may have helped that it was nearly the end of their opening hours.

Good luck!

Felt that Sky were better than Channel 4 today for a change. Eddie Jordan was completely embarrassing.

The Bernie feature was enjoyable, as was the Jenson/Ted moment.

Was so staggered when I heard this I had to post it here

You know when a local paper or normal magazine talks about F1 and gets things so wrong you can scream.

That fountain of knowledge on F1 Darren Gough came out with a beauty yesterday while I was listening to the hilariously bad Talksport (so bad its actually listenable)

Apparently if Lewis had gone as fast he could have done, he would have won the race by 3 minutes.

And silence...  How are these people even allowed to talk about sport!!!

Would I make crazy comments about weightlifting or equestrianism?  No as I know nothing about them!

Senna v Brundle is worth catching on Sky. Quite insightful. Wish there was more racing footage, though.

I watched that too Dalton, some of the sounds they used were pretty hilarious!

But the content is good and very interesting from Martin's point of view of what Prost came up against later on.

I thought he and EJ came across very well as guys who would fine any way possible to try and beat their rival.

Considering Brundle's background, I was surprised how well he was able to handle Senna. Fascinating. Love all the wheeler dealer approach to racing back then.

Really? I thought, given their narrative over the year, it would have been 'Nico the spineless coward'.....

'Nico - Luck was finally on his side'

'Nico - Hamiltons engine failures win it for Rosberg'

'Nico - Luck was finally on his side'

'Nico - Hamiltons engine failures win it for Rosberg'

That would be the alternatives  :p
