As I said I'm looking for NASCAR fans here :) Does anyone follow these races? I'm a Brad Keselowski fan. Season starts February 21 at Daytona. Legendary Daytona 500 most prestigious race in calendar.

There's still a small group that contributes to the NASCAR topic. Since Montoya has returned to open wheel, the number has dwindled. Welcome to the forum.

I think it's a combination of Montoya and the cheapening of the championship.  The Chase format makes for possibly exciting viewing the day of the race, but otherwise entirely forgettable season.  It took me a while before I could reliable recall that Kyle Busch won the championship, for example.

Absolutely agree D_G - having paid attention to NASCAR since the mid-'60s, (though nowhere like Indy Cars and F1), NASCAR has finally manipulated the format to the point where their championship is a matter I now care little about.

Kyle has won the championship?

Ok, seriously.  I try to follow the races. Obviously the night races are a pretty tough task for every European.

Re chase system: For the last 2 years i was hoping that the clear underdog wins the championship. Just to make them recognize how bad this system is

I agree the chase is not ideal. I would prefer the driver with the most wins in a season wins the title. That would be fair and exciting where every one race in a season makes sense.

Really?

What happened to the thing that a championship is the best driver/team/country through a whole season?

You mean on points. That's crap that's history. That's not interesting anymore. Champ should be driver with the most wins in my opinion.

The 3 touring series alone have nearly 100 races, which is a lot to keep track of. Then there's the Toyota (Mexico) series, Canadian Tire series (now Pinty's), K&N East\West, ARCA, Whelen Modifieds and Late Models as part of the "ladder" to them.

Trucks and Arca/K&N are the only good nascar racing anymore.

I only like the super speedways and road courses because those are the only good races left in Sprint Cup and XFinity.

Mainly a Harvick fan.

I'm definitely moving more away from the sport as the more amount of silly gimmicks pile on.

Really?! Will you give us some pictures and video :)

Here's the type of posts we expect from good race fans like yourself Bradislav.
Like this one I did last year for Daytona.

Jp gets his hot-diggity-gigitty-boogity on..Y'all.

Truckasaurus.jpg
I had a girlfriend in College named Diane Gudmunsted. A free spirited lass from Sveltstad Norway.
She had an AMC Pacer and the back deck (boot) was kitted out with throw rugs and pillows and exotics oils.
A veritable tantric knocking shop, as long as you were prostrate...I STILL have that welt on the top of my head from the big back window.
She taught me everything I know.
That Pacer went up in flames at the cast party for LAVC Theatre Arts production of Cabaret after my assistant, Lacy Overall, threw her highball into the front seat along with a lit Sherman cigarette. The words she murmured were something to the effect of... 'He gave her class / she gave him sex.'

A few years later I went to Riverside Raceway to see my first, and to this date only, NASCAR race.. The Budweiser 400
I got a call from Diane's father asking me if I was driving her to the race...
I said "What?..Diane? going to the race?..First I had heard of it."
Oh Yes..She's the trophy girl, has been for 3 years.

And so it was, on the occasion of RCR's first ever victory Diane stood proud in her flimsy blue wraparound skirt and flowing Norse mane.
Budweiser_400_83_Riverside_Winner_Ricky_

Now the good news...(and keep it under your hat)
Jp has been surreptitiously recruited by the GeneralRegionalOperationsTeam or GROT to keep an eye on the proceedings, the fortunes of RCR and, a few certain persons of interest. So then, Je Suis your man on the ground at Daytona. That's right folks..Stand by for another thrilling episode of Jp's Trackside Reports ©

Yee Haa baby..

giphy.gif

Fast forward one week..

Ok so... The other day I was in Miami and had to spend $14.34 for a beer.
What a poser frickin waste of space that town has become.
It used to be a super destination.. Well, not anymore.. it's all posers and over priced bull$hit.

Anyway..
I went to the credentials office this morning and was ushered through faster than any other series I have ever..BOOM Hot pass for Jp.

Once I got in the first thing I saw was.... a Mclaren
I was confused.

Then the second thing I saw was.... Am I in some bizarre parallel universe?

Jeff Gordon was in the house, early doors, and has a following as big as Jr.
Poor guy is gonna HATE the farewell tour.
To his credit he went straight to the car and asked for engine changes

Ya know, I Love these Krashlowski fans..To a man they are eriudite and peacefully thoughtful just like BK's muse Eleanor Roosevelt...Look at the love beaming in through the 'fan window'

Stopped by at the Champs pit . He was in a jovial and courteous mood.
Then he saw the newest member of the $hithead club and he went all ...meh.

Noticed that the press corp is getting younger. These kids are either unpaid interns or on work experience for class credit.

All of a sudden I saw someone I knew..!!! I asked this hipster guy standing next to us to snap a pic so I could send it to a mutual friend but he was more interested in taking pictures of himself then focus on us. I finally got a security guard to take the shot.

Soon enough it was Time for the NationBuschFinity race and the drivers made their way to the grid.

I hung with Brendan as he was born in the same hospital as me Cedars of Lebanon.
Meanwhile BK was gittin' giggy wit it

EVREYONE in his stall turned when a whacko came into the pits...
But he's a regular and has a hot pass for life or something like that.

Soon the race started and I ran into an old friend...
She seemed perturbed and unhappy but it may have just been my proximity to her that soured the moment.

Brenden thought his tyres were a bit ...under performing

The action suddenly became furious .
As soon as I snapped THIS PIC

IT ALL WENT SOUTH

Traffic out was a breeze...we will see what happens tomorrow...

RACE DAY here in Daytona.
It's packed and hot and ATT cell service is like an ice cream cone in hell.
But hey..I'm already having a good 'ol time.

EDIT: Yes, I am tuning in. Fingers crossed for no injuries.

That's what I thought this morning as the throngs invaded the pitlane..
Man oh man, This kind of human schlamozzle would send the F1 Jizzeratti into a tailspin

JP can you get a closeup of Kyle's aircast?

He and Sam send you regards Deluxx.

I'm one year into my last rethink. One thing had led to another and I somehow ended up editing a real life magazine about fish feed.

I is hungry too..
Time for a look at the hospitality lunch menu..
animal.jpg

I think this race has been great. It has been "pure".
I followed the 48 for the whole race and damn it has been exciting for me.

Here's an autograph for ya RT

Now? Now we cry.

I know I'll do, if Logano wins. Can't stand the kid.

Ha..That's YOUR hatewagon departing the station then.
$hithead was awesome today...glad I joined the club.(see one of my previous posts for hysterical link)

Edit: And in Gordon's final 500, he gets wrecked by the 3. Now that's funny.

Edit: Irony is the best racing resolution.

Obsevation 1
Ok so the sound of the pack as they roar past is a prerequisite for any of you so called race fans to experience.

Observation 2
The end of the race, with 3 wide lap after lap, was worth all my effort to get here..
I scanned 'your favorites' on the fanvision radio during that section and heard mostly silence.

Observation 3
Hendrick have it together...Not only are there free massages in the garage anytime the car is out...
The crew chief does the child minding!!!!

I hear she's a handful.

My little side project turned out well
See about 1:26-1:33 in.

No Amber Lounge for this victory...

What a fun weekend.

PS...I'm a Brad fan too

Sigh. Chase format being introduced for Xfinity and Trucks: http://www.motorspor...-series-668756/

Even though 3-4 drivers were in contention for those titles in the final race, the field apparently isn't close enough...

Upcoming talent that gets paid to drive is worth watching. There tended to be less debris yellows and better tracks (Gateway, Road America, Iowa, Mosport etc) on their schedules too.

Trucks had a half-time caution in the early days, but that was when they ran on tracks without full pit roads.

Cup series has locked in the same tracks for 5 years, so other than a few shuffling of dates the schedule will be identical. Between that and the debris yellows\convoluted Chase format, there's no reason for me to keep watching it.

Since the Gen6 was created and suilly gimmick after gimmick is how I'm slowly giving up on Nascar.

If chsase goes to trucks than ARCA is my favorite, but it isn't Nascar and it is run with a person with a brain.

K&N Pro will run several road courses this year (Dominion Raceway, VIR, Watkins Glen, Miller Motorsports Park, Sonoma, New Jersey Motorsports Park). They'll be a major factor in the East series championship.

Yes, according to the poster Nascar put out, there will be a caution at least every 20 minutes in the Truck series. Eldora is the only exception.

You cannot make that **** up. In real life, they would put you in a corner chair, wearing a pointy hat if you spoke that out load.

Were there any comments from Truck owners or drivers about this rule?

The Chase going to Xfinity and Trucks was inevitable I guess but its still a huge letdown. One of the only reasons I watched was it was still set up how a motorsports championship use to be. Now there's no point not too mention stupid. 12 drivers for Xfinity seems excessive considering Cup drivers are ineligible. And the Truck series doesn't even run enough races much less field competitive teams anymore.

Don't even get me started on the Clock bullshit. I heard rumors about it towards the end of last year but I can't believe they actually did it. I thought the Chase is and always has been garbage but NASCAR reached a new low on this one. What's next? A fan vote during races where fans vote to remove one driver from the race like its Survivor? We're one more change like this away from me actively rooting for NASCAR to go belly up.

I've followed the races quite a bit for the last decade, but with the chase stupidity, single lane restrictor plate racing, all the yellows etc. I find it increasingly boring (and usually prefer fotball if there's a good match on at the same time). If I stay up late a Sunday night to watch a whole race I usually regret it Monday morning as it rarely is worth sacrificing quality sleep to watch another crapshoot NASCAR race finish. I rather just watch a two minute highlights clip. IndyCars OTOH is getting really good again.

I was genuinely stunned and mortified when I read about caution clock. I mean, really? They only want a maximum of 20 minutes green flag racing? Nobody is going to be setting their cars up for long runs then.......it's just so ridiculous. As if they didn't have enough cautions in NASCAR as it is, now they want to force extra cautions for no sensible or logical reason. It's one of the most ridiculous rule changes I've ever heard of.

Trucks had a half-time caution in the early days, but that was when they ran on tracks without full pit roads.

IMO, the early days of the truck series was the last, truly classic short track racing done by NASCAR. It attracted a lot of short track veterans and they put on some great racing.

I've never had the desire to watch the Trucks, but I have even less desire too now. What a stupid rule?!

It's like the 20/20 cricket of Motorsport. I suppose for a casual fan it'll make it more interesting, but that's about it.

I wasn't at the Brickyard race where the tire debacle required a caution every ten laps, but one of my best friends was watching from the Coca-Cola suite where he observed countless fans making their way to the exits due to all the down time from green flag racing. Amazing that they now are now going to create a similar season-long scenario.

Crate engines have been around for quite a while on the U.S. short track scene, often with their share of controversy.

I mean the whole "cost-cutting" angle and "alternative" to factory/works engines.

Not to mention the manufacturers and teams immediately criticising the idea:

"Wilson added that while the truck series remains close to his heart, Toyota would have to rethink its participation in the series if forced to adopt the program."

“I feel like the manufacturers want to see their engines in the vehicles and not just be a body,” said current Sprint Cup Champion Kyle Busch, whose truck team also won the 2015 title."

Yes, I know, we're actually writing about the same thing, just drop "manufacturers" and replace it with "engine builders." The reactions are remarkably similar to when individual tracks or touring series proposed crate motors. Interesting to see NASCAR go down that road, as it's marked with the same signage :)
