Already reported in the car launch thread, but we don't have a 2016 Sauber one yet so this might as well be the news to start from:

New Sauber will not be ready for first F1 test

They say it's according to plan, but having only one test for a new cars is surely a situation far from ideal and quite risky? Might prove to be a difficult start of the season for them (as if they had it easy for the past few years).

Force India had a tough pre-season last year and that ended not too bad for them. Sauber have had a rough few years though so will be asking alot for similar.

Mark Smith is there too. He can make some differences in a positive way. Sauber, Haas and Manor (with lower threat) will fight it very hard and towards the end, the winner of those three will annoy ToroRosso as well.

Such a precious prediction   ;)

It is. I don't think they will show anything until the official presentation.

When and why did this team's relationship with Ferrari go South?

From developing drivers for the red team to running year old engines and pay drivers is quite a drop :-(

They have the same engines, and their Ferrari relationship is still strong. Their problem is not Ferrari but cash.

Oh, damn. It's STR with the old Ferrari engines and Manor with new Merc engines and Haas setting their goal at being as fast as Sauber was in 2015? Lol.

Sauber have been financially challenged ever since BMW dropped them like a hot brick. They have never had a stable sponsor situation since.

Think that it is quite impressive that they are still around, given what has happened all around them. Lotus/caterham, Virgin/Marussia/Manor, Hispania/HRT and of course Renault/Lotus/Renault.

Can't help feel that Sauber are slowly slipping back down the grid towards the back and into oblivion and only being bought by a manufacturer will stop the rot. Last year they went for reliability and coupled with the better Ferrari power unit bagged some points early on, but I dunno if they can do the same this year. Think Nasr did well on occasion last season, but Ericsson isn't up to much. Younger, more ambitious teams like Haas are going to give them a bit of a go this season I think.

I think they are destined to be backmarkers, hard to see how they can cope with the well-funded Haas team or the Merc engines of the Manors. Such a shame how far they have fallen since 2012.

Mismanagement. Monisha should have been canned after the 4 drivers debacle, if not earlier.

You would think that if the shareholders thought that were true they would have.

that "interim livery" for the first teat looks awfully similar to last year's. I can't see any difference to the car either.

So they have maintained the "Ikea" livery...Such a shame, there is so much more exciting things you can do with those colours  :(

The rest of her work has been fine. She does a good job in very difficult circumstances.

I like how Sauber have dumped every sponsor on the rear wing!

The main shareholder is Peter Sauber (holds two thirds). He could dump Kaltenborn (I think she holds one third), but he isnt doing that (and the tabloids in Switzerland are critizising him for that). Guess he can't afford it in the current financial situation.

Ikea

in a parallel world where advertizement of furniture is banned, Ikea purchases all the space of  Sauber and re-sell bits of spaces to others and dictate the whole livery :D

That livery is not new, nor is it a livery. It's the same blue car with a shapeless yellow blob on the side from last year. Someone at Sauber needs to be replaced...

Exactly.

A team owned by people that support a manager that is a blatant fraud.

Not a lot to respect there.

The car above is nonetheless the one that competed at Abu Dhabi last year.

Are Sauber running a low chassis? The incline at the front of the car is much less dramatic than that of anybody else. That said however I think the Haas is quite similar in profile.

Good progress considering the tight budget.

With a 2016 Ferrari engine, they have a good base to build from.

I don't see the issue with the livery. It won't win too many awards for sure but it is fairly distinctive compared to some of the others.

The blue seems a bit deeper which makes it look less washed out; not sure if its just the studio pics though. I like it - as you say, its the one splash of colour on the grid! It should look nice when they are getting lapped.
