As I had no luck with the search function finding a thread I'm sure already exists, I'll start a new one which can be merged with the previous one. Anyway, I just saw this book that is about to be released. Is this the one which we've been waiting for?

Thank heaven this isn't more bad news - my heart sank when I saw the title of this thread. Anyway, this is the thread you're looking for, I think:

Brian Redman's autobiography

This book must be the one Tony (Giraffe) mentioned at the end of the earlier thread. The blurb shows it as covering the period 1965-1975, so not the complete story, but much, much better than nothing. I do hope this one finally makes it.

I thought the same thing, Tim. Sooooo glad it wasn't more bad news!

Bet it's a great book, though. A career including 917s and T332s certainly captures my pursuits (in Dreamland).

Thanks for letting us know, JnG. :-)

More specific thread titles might save a few of us from unwelcome spikes in blood pressure....

Spoke to him recently - on good form. Lives in Florida and only comes to UK now for Goodwood when asked.

I made him an open invitation to come and talk to us at the film show  about his life , to let us know whenever he was coming over. If you have seen any TV interviews he has so many stories about so many people and is so good at telling the tale -  and full of fun, it would be quite an occasion .

Me too. Perhaps "Brian Redman's Book" would have been a less stressfull title

Looking forward to the book

OOPS, I guess I was hoping this would be combined with the previous thread before anyone got the wrong idea. Not that it occurred to me that my title would set off any alarms or give off any bad vibes..

This might be more appropriately merged into the book thread.

Some might not be aware that Brian Redman has supplied TNF with an occasional post over the years.  His user name is "Mozart" and can be found by searching.

Reading them does make you want the full book even more.

If only we'd known, we wouldn't have been quite so pro-Bach.

That's cool, Dave, I gotta look some up... Thanks!

I believe his most recent post here was a tribute to the late Troy Rogers of Chaparral, under the username 'brianhermonthomas':

Good find, Tim. This BHTR Mozart bloke has carefully orchestrated a veiled symphony for our audience -- and somehow I missed the entire boat of stage players.

In short, God Bless Mr. Redman. He always made me smile as a kid in the crowd, autograph in hand, and thankfully, some things never change.

Yes indeed, a lovely man. I ran across him at the Goodwood FoS last year, chatting to Howden Ganley. I wasn't brave enough to interrupt them, but I did take a photo. Brian spotted me, turned and gave me a big wink.

The book's publication date is being generally quoted as 10th March. Here's the blurb, as found on the Foyles site:

Thanks for that, Tim... Brian's story is long-awaited, and has to be one fabulous read!

I'm tempted to buy one for our friend Eddie, who recently showed us a great print of Brian offering cockpit-side support in the day. You know who I'm referring to. :-)

Thanks for spreading the word. Same for JacnGille.

He is a gentleman. My first visit to Goodwwod Revival, in 2002, Brian graciously invited my wife and me to join his small group from Targa 66 even though we were not members. Little did we realize this would include dinner at Goodwood House following an indoor/outdoor cocktail party with (the now late) Ray Hanna doing strafing runs over the house in his Spitfire. Magical.

Thanks, Jack, great story.

He always struck me as one of those old-school thinkers who truly appreciated all the good fortunes in his career -- in a day where just surviving was pretty darned lucky.

Thanks Alan - I'm looking forward to it. I've just remembered the Legend of Brian Redman's Cat:

Brian Redman's Cat

I wonder if the moggie will get a mention.

Indeed, £60 at the show but a bargain £32.50 on the well-known bookselling website. I had a look at it at Race Retro and it looks superb.

Before the XK120, of course, with his Morris Minor Traveller, with which he delivered mops for the Patent Wringer Company and in which he began racing at Rufforth in 1959

I've pre-ordered a copy from Amazon, and it's due for release by them in two days, March 10th. As I have a copy of the manuscript of the Redman book "More Throttle Less Brake" by Michael Keyser that was never published, I will be interested to see how they compare.

PS Brian turns 79 tomorrow, March 9th!

£27.50 from SpeedyHen (no affiliation etc.) http://www.speedyhen...Tracks/18784385

Said well-known bookselling website rarely gives the best prices these days in my experience.

Further to post No.40, It must be a bit disheartening to see your pension supplement so heavily discounted from day 1.  I trust it's the publishers and distributors who take the hit and not the great man.

Whatever he gets per copy its not enough.  I thought it was a great read, and with excellent photos.  I came to like the episodic way it is arranged rather than a straight chronological treatment too.

Its interesting to note that they had a last minute change of sub title from what's shown on the linked website.  On the actual book its "Daring drivers, deadly tracks"

Well worth the wait.

I've had several books of my photo work published, and the author typically gets a flat royalty percentage of around 5% of retail price. Modest discounts to sellers are given to enable lowered sell prices, but in the end the sellers and authors absorb most of the discount. The publishers get most of the money, partly because they spent the money up front, so mostly only lose out if a book is "remaindered" -- meaning sold in bulk as "scrap" -- which publishers sometimes do to increase cash flow when sales are unexpectedly low.

I hope Mr. Redman sells several tons of these, but that said, the benefits of pride and joy can pay off in ways beyond mere profit.

My copy has just arrived, can't wait to get into it if I'm strong enough to lift it. Sat next to Brian at the Goodwood cricket match lunch last year. Lovely bloke, an endless fund of anecdotes, but a terrible cricket umpire.

In order to get that deal Tim, you have most probably & possibly unwittingly signed up to Amazon Prime. I paid them £32.50 + £2.99 delivery & am expecting delivery next Wednesday.
