In order to get that deal Tim, you have most probably & possibly unwittingly signed up to Amazon Prime. I paid them £32.50 + £2.99 delivery & am expecting delivery next Wednesday.

Maybe not. I'm certainly not on Prime and my copy turned up yesterday, £32.50 with free p&p.

Naff subtitle aside, a wonderful book.

I thought it was free delivery for all orders over £20.00, sometimes they've even done special offer free on cheaper items for me. I got tricked into signing up for Amazon Prime, as did many others. I cancelled before the 30 day trial was up, bought one item, and they took three days to deliver it, so much like their normal "economy" service. If you don't want to download films etc, can't see the point, and it's too expensive anyway unless you're an Amazonaholic.

When you go to 'Checkout' on Amazon change the delivery method by clicking the 'Free Delivery' button. It is normally 2 or 3 days longer to wait, but cheaper.

I discovered to my cost last time I purchased from Amazon that I had not unticked a box, and subsequently got free next day delivery.......and Amazon Prime!  As we already have Amazon Prime, I had to go through a right rigmaroll to disengage from it!

Many thanks for kind comments!

Book does actually cover more than the "'65 to '75" era, but nowt about moggie, sorry!

The publisher is Evro, in the U.K. book will go on sale in early March.

Anyone interested can go to website"   www.gorace.com - and click on THE BOOK and read the first chapter, Spa-Francorchamps.

They can then go to the order form for either the USA or Europe.

Will be in the U.K. to sign books and for the introduction at the R.A.C. Club, Pall Mall, London, May11th.

All the best! Brian

Talking with Howden Ganley today re. Brian's book & pricing, he made the following very valid observations.......

"That is some serious discount that Amazon are giving . The book, of which Brian sent me several chapters a while back , is worth much

more than that .  I don't yet have a copy of the finished product  - I am waiting to buy mine direct
from Brian .
It would be very nice if all the TNFers and others would purchase direct from Brian  - as he
at least makes a bit from his own sales . He has a good stock of them in his possession - he
e-mailed to say how much they weigh , as he discovered when he unloaded them off the pallett !

The Road to Monaco  weighs  3lbs 4 ozs  -  Brian's weighs 4 lbs . That is a lot of book.
His sales have started very well and he is currently at Amelia Island - doing signings.  That is another
advantage of buying direct from him  - you can have the book personalised .

Anyway - his is a great story and  hopefully his book will be a sellout "

Myself, I intend purchasing a copy at full price from Brian at the RAC Club in May. .

P.S. Howden just reminded me that stocks of his great book "The Road to Monaco" are dwindling, and that's a book I'm advised will never be discounted.

Well done, Tony and Howden!

I can vouch for this… the author makes several times the profit compared to royalties, the books can be signed and/or personalized, the author is much more inspired and rewarded all around, and the odds of a reprint go way up.

With all these factors, direct buyers are also inclined to buy copies for their friends, families, associates, former and current team members, etc.

Perfect Christmas presents as well!!!

Wow...I just got the Hettler/Klinkel Nurburgring 1000 km book.  It weighs 9 lbs... and came in the mail.  I'm running out of room for all these big books.  Maybe we should start a thread...The Biggest Racing Books Ever.

Back OT, I'm looking forward to seeing these two.

Well worth the wait, it does not disappoint in any way. Very well written, in a fluent intelligent style, with a thoughtful layout and really great photographs. It gives a particular insight into that wonderful era, which fills in a lot of gaps. The addenda by Marion Redman and Sam Posey are a nice and touching addition. Congratulations and thank you Brian!

I have to say this is one of the best motor racing books I have had the pleasure of reading (and I've read lots!)  Not only is the book of high quality and expertly laid out, but the contents are just fantastic.  The style is wonderfully conversational and as such this is one of those rare books where you can dip in and out or read different sections in no particular order and if doesn't affect the overall experience.  This book is a triumph.

Mine has arrived and I have just browsed so far.Looks good- unlike the cover which I thought was terrible ; it succeeded in looking like every £25 discounted to a fiver horror in WH Smiths .But I buy books for words - and having greatly enjoyed Brian's Motor Sport podcast (and having long been an admirer,, even though he is from t'wrong side of t'Pennines) I look forward to the read  .

Have to agree about the cover and the title could have been better. But I'm being picky because the contents

and the words are first class. The layout and the photo quality are superb. One of the best books I've read.

I in particular enjoyed Brian's writings in the book, about his time in F 5000 with Jim Hall.

I posted this one before, I wonder if this one gave him the heebeegeebees   but he seems to have things well in hand.

That's one ugly car.

A small thing, but originating from northern parts myself, I'd always assumed that Brian was a member of the Redman family that owns a long established eponymous chain of Lancashire grocers. Apparently though, although he married a grocer's daughter, he comes from a line of brush makers. I discovered this on reading a proof of an unpublished earlier attempt at an autobiography. Does this mean that Brian has no direct link to the grocer dynasty at al ?  It's not the most common name, there can't be all that many Redmans up north.

The book is illuminating about a crazy era, funny in places and often moving. Whoever was mainly responsible, I am sure it is Redman's own voice that comes through.

It would have been even better if it had been presented chronologically rather than in themed sections. Apart from anything else, this would perhaps have reduced unnecessary repetition. Also, in the early chapters the editing is very good but after that it drops away badly.

The Redmans were grocers.

From his book "youth in Burnley centered on family, and, since mine owned a chain of 25 grocery stores..."    "After my discharge in 1958 I settled into a mop business that I inherited from my maternal grandfather".

I read the book over several months rather than in a few sessions -- it is a book that doesn't have to be rushed. So the thematic sections worked for me. The photo editor deserves a lot of credit for his/her selections from the big archives and from the albums of the Redman family and friends. It's a great example of how to write a sporting biography.

My mother's family emigrated from Lancashire to the American Midwest in the mid-19th century. As most in those circumstances, they were farmers. Their surname was Redman, which was eventually changed to Redmon. Surely Brian and I must share DNA....but probably not the driving talent and bravery DNA.:)
