So I was thinking about getting the Microprose Grand Prix 2 game on emulator for my laptop, and buying a cheapo Thrustmaster joystick to play it.

Has anyone done the same with this game? Or are there any good emulator racing games out there than can be recommended?

Can I give you piece of unsolicited advice? In my experience GP2 and GP3 are quite the nightmare to install properly on a Windows-machine. I've got all installments of the game on my PC, if only for nostalgic reasons. GP3 just refuses to accept any new tracks. GP2 doesn't want to recognize any joysticks of gamepads with two axis. GP4 - if you use in combination with the CSM-program (which let you switch between tracks, years, anything) works flawlessly on my PC.

And I use Windows, mind you, with a Windows emulator...  :stoned:

Dosbox works fine... unfortunately I can't get GP2 to recognise my gamepad... GP2 is so old it can't comprehend that anyone, ever, would invent a joystick with... two sticks...

That's odd. Shouldn't it support two sticks when it supports steering wheels with pedals? Did you play around with the joystick options in the DOSBox conf file?

I wish I could tell you it works for a fact, but I've only been running Indycar Racing I & II with my dual stick gamepad. :)
