How much funding do they have behind them? Perhap's they could buy Force India?

Isn't SMP just AF Corse under a different name? Basically SMP paying for branding?

Проблема никогда не приходит одна.

in long term means: Don't think they buy Force India, but SMP is a team I really think they can do F1. And hope they'll do.

Well their GT cars are certainly run by AF Corse, I don't know about their LMP2's though. On the upside they run BR-01's, and BR Engineering is owned by SMP so in this respec tthey are at least a manufacturer in their own right.

Thread title is a bit misleading though, they are not actively targeting a move to F1, Petrov (who has only just joined the team) is only suggesting that they might target F1 in the future. Kind of a big difference that.

Didn't they run the BR-01s under "AF Racing" because of the sanctions against Russia? So I thought AF Corse might have something to do with it or was that purely to avoid the economic restrictions?

I believe the now ex-P2 team KCMG said that they "might" target F1 in the future. Mind you, that was only the team boss saying it and not an ex-F1 driver, so it's hardly click baity enough for Motorsport.com

I was always of the belief that there is no SMP Racing. It's SMP Bank who pay other teams to compete under their banner.

They've always been entered under the name SMP Racing, but it does seem that the team is AF Racing.

SMP Racing is a drivers support program, not a racing team.

The old name of the team was Russian Bears Motorsport

A Petrov-Sirotkin lineup would be interesting to see.

I don't think so, if I remember right it was a trio of research and development istitutions.

I thought Russian Bears ran Lada's WTCC team?

According to Wikipedia Russian Bears renamed themselves to SMP but no references are provided.

Maybe it's the same situation with AF Corse and Russian Bears ran cars for SMP Racing?
