Hi,

I own a P and M framed Kawasaki with a GPZ 750 engine.

I have contacted P and M and the bike was built for a Graham Hill to race in the TT Formula 1 championship.

From an Autosport posting i see that the bike raced at the Anglo American Transatlantic races  in 1985 at Donington Park. The bike was raced by G Hill number 52.

Also in the Isle of Man TT data base, on the web, a G Hill is on it. I do not know if it is the same Graham Hill as there isn't any more info, other than two races and two DNF..

I believe the bike was then sold to Saxon Racing and raced by a Greg Gibson.

The bike reappeared  in 2010 at the CRMC and from then on i have the history.

I am trying to trace any pictures of the bike in its TT Formula 1 livery.

Or trace people who knew Graham Hill or Saxon racing/Greg Gibson.

I will race the bike in the CRMC championship in 2016 and would like to try and have the livery it had when it raced in the TT Formula 1 championships in the '80s.

Any info is welcome.

Regards,

Andy.

Hi Andy, Try Bill Snelling in relation to any TT photo's, he holds a vast archive and might just turn something up, he is a member on here but rarely seen, drop him an email amulree@mcb.net is the last address I have for him, if he doesn't respond to it do a bit of googling and you should track him down, I think he's active on facebook.

Andy, Peter McNab is a sometime contributor here with the tag pierrepietropedro or something very similar.   Problem is I don't think he's been around recently. Might be worth a go tho.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the reply. I shall try and get in touch with Bill Snelling to see if he has any photos of the bike back in the day.

I do call in fairly regularly but don't leave a trace of my visits!

The last frame I made was number 59 and I see from the frame list that frame number 117 was attributed to a G Hill, so I was long gone when that one was made. The name means nothing to me, apart from the obvious one. I've got a short televised report of the F1 race at the end of the 1985 Transatlantic Challenge races at Donington, but #52 didn't figure on it and the quality from those days wasn't what we're used to now, so no way of zooming up on the starting grid to see him. I can't find any G. Hill competing in the Formula 1 or Senior races between 1983 and 1986, so don't know when he may have done the TT.

I've been in touch with Bill Snelling before, but I seem to remember I got hold of him by message to his fb page as I didn't get an answer from his email address.

I believe the technical term is lurking.   Good that you haven't forgotten us, Peter.    :)

Thank you all for your comments, help and tips.

I have found that Graham Hill definitely raced the bike in the Formula 1 championships in 1984,1985 and 1986.

I have programmes for Donington, Brand Hatch and Silverstone.

In the programmes it said he is from London E10.

I have noticed that another racer called Asa Moyce was racing in the Formula 1 on a Harris performance Kawasaki Magnum 750. It says that he was also from London E10.

So i can only imagine that they knew each other as they were from the same part of London.

Does anyone know Asa Moyce? Has anyone got any contact details for him?

Andy

Thank you for the info on Bartel. I have spoken to Asa who was very helpful. He knew Graham Hill when he raced the P and M framed Kawasaki in the Formula 1 races. He is kindly looking to see if he can find Grahams contact details and will let me know if he comes up with anything.

So getting close to a photograph of the bike being raced by Graham Hill in the F! championships.

Richard at P and M and Asa both said that Graham always had another guy who was his helper/ mechanic with him. I wonder if anyone knows who this was , or knows of his whereabouts. May be he has a few photos?

Any info appreciated.

HI Andy,

Firstly, apologies for my late reply - I've only just logged in and got your PM

I have to say I'm extremely worried by your message as the P&M frame number you say you now own is sitting in my garage and has been for the past 5 years. I have a wealth of documented evidence that shows its history from leaving P&M in 1984 until I acquired the bike in 2010.

This opens up a whole can of worms for one of us as I do not believe that Richard Peckett would have made 2 frames with the same number ?

I've replied to your PM,  I'm not sure what's going on, though ? Have you read the frame number correctly - sorry if I'm asking the obvious !

Thanks.

Mark.
