What to expect...?
Traditionally the teams are using the first test week to localize reliability problems. Lap times wont be important at all. As the test schedule is short cutted teams will also face a bigger challenge.

What are the talking points...?
McLaren-Honda will be in the spotlight. It will be interesting to see if the team solved the reliability and performance issues - or at least one of them. Similar applies to Renault, although it is expected for them that the improvements wont be that significant first. The start of the new Haas team will be interesting too. And also whether the Mercedes and Williams support brought Manor forward. Although performance wont be the top priority in the first test week we might get a first impression whether Ferrari closed the gap to Mercedes.

85 days after the season final F1 is finally back in action

The circuit map is wrong. Sadly there's now a tight hairpin and chicane that ruins the flow at the end of the lap.

Yeah, that was a bit wishfull thinking :p Thanks.

I wish they would use the layout for the testing - a) Its there, b) Drivers would enjoy it, c) Its more aerodynamically challenging, d) Its less data prior to the Spanish GP

Man seeing the times compared to 2008 is depressing.

Over 4 seconds slower with grooved tires.

I wonder if we will ever go back to breaking records.

I think with one week less of testing, we'll see long runs and qualifying sims a lot sooner than in previous years.

Also, why does Celis get so much tracktime for Force India.

Should hear less bitching from the drivers too, weather seems just about okay to bring the tyres up to temp.

Because he's bringing a big load of cash, and Force India's increasingly struggling to pay the bills.

It's really quite sad and telling that Force India are the only team resorting to a slow teenage paydriver to do 2 days of testing, when every single other team is using their race drivers, given how limited testing is this year. Doesn't bode well for them at all.

Because Celis is bringing a lot of money and will be getting a race seat in the near future.

Sad but true indeed. My guess is Pérez will leave after this year to Williams or Ferrari with Celis stepping up.  :|

The Celis thing is so freaking sad. Everyone in Mexico is mad because he's taking time off Perez on track lol. I dont know what Vijay is thinking but Mexican fans and sponsors arent going to follow this kid if he makes it to F1. He sucks and doesn't have the results

Edit: Also forgot to add, Celis doesnt have the same sponsors as Perez and Gutierrez, they're different ones

Would you rather they don't test at all? For all we know this kids money could be the reason they are even going testing.

We'll see on Monday, obviously they're gonna be struggling with the Sahara news, as they're trying to pull out, I'm curious to see the sponsors on the new car. Johnnie Walker also didnt move and stayed in McLaren

I know those teams are cash strapped but am I the only one who finds it looking rather unprofessional to see the Force India and Sauber trucks and trailers still not having been repainted in the current colours?

Has this kid got a Superlicence? Because I thought it would be impossible for him to get into a race seat that quickly.

He has (or will get) a Practice Only Super licence.

Luckily in his case he really needs the 40 points without any exception. So I dont think that we will see him soon in a race seat in F1.

Edit: I dont know if he tried last year to qualify under the old rules (300 km test) and if so whether he passed (Sirotkin failed a few years ago for instance). But I guess we would have heared of that anyway.

They destroyed the track when they tilkenised the last corner. Otherwise, a good track for testing, not racing.

Hmmm... Orange and blue livery in the Manor logo and on the Manor trucks.. These colours remind me of something...

Will they have Gulf as a sponsor this year? Haryanto brings money to Manor via oil company Pertamina (which is still in hands of the Indonasian goverment I believe). Maybe Pertamina has a connection to Gulf Oil or SOCAL (the company that own Gulf Oil) ?

Last week, also a picture was leaked on the net of the new Aguri livery in Formula E, which is rumoured to appear on these cars from next ePrix onwards. Another Asian connection?

Current-E-Formula-E-Gulf-Racing-joins-Te

I might just hope for it to much.. But still... These colours strongly remind me of Gulf Oil...

Maybe some other company? Any suggestions? Or is this just a random choice of coulors by Manor?

Since the cars are merely evolutions and there are only two tests, I hope they start doing serious runs as early as this week, instead of messing around with systems checks.

I was confused by the Sky announcement, they said they will provide commentary from dusk till dawn. I got really excited, then I realized it's written commentary in their live updates online.

Are there absolutely no cameras at this test with a livestream? Would love to see the cars in action.

I could be mistaken but looking at the Manor logo and the Aguri car, it looks like different shades of blue and orange. But it's promising for maybe finally a cool new livery, Manor's logo looks pretty sleek.

Yep I really like Manor's logo. Though hope they don't go for a Williams-esque livery; i.e. white with some minimalist stripes.

Force India changed the testing schedule: the first two days are remaining the same, but on day 3 Perez/Hulkenberg will share the cockpit. On the final day Hulkenberg will drive. Celis is just driving at the first day.

Lunch break confirmed for 13 CET (12 GMT).

OP updated.

Since they changed the layout of the site it is gone. They promised to try to bring it back one day however.

Pirelli is blowing left and right. It is dangerous. Even if she wanted them, just don't allow her unless you want a new girlfriend
