It's no help whatsoever I'm afraid, but I love the way that nothing on the real car (Castrol, BRM, the break in the stripes and the race number) is properly aligned. The model is far too correct.

And why try to cram the Goodyear in sticker there, when there's so much empty white space?

It could have been worse; I did not get into tires and tyres.

Hi Ryan, really looking forward to seeing the P154 in the Castrol colours, any idea when it might be completed? ................Martin

This may sound a dumb suggestion: have you tried to contact the model maker - they must have a library of reference photos.

Incidentally, Tom, I have never heard the term "sparking plug" used in Britain - always just "spark".

From Wikipedia:

spark plug (sometimes, in British English, a sparking plug,[1] and, colloquially, a plug) is a device for delivering electric current from an ignition system to the combustion chamber of a spark-ignition engine to ignite the compressed fuel/air mixture by an electric spark, while containing combustion pressure within the engine.

A quick scan through the online Times archive suggests that 'sparking plug' was a term which fell out of general use in the mid-1960s, with quite a few of the later citations being on business pages and actually referring to the full legal name of the American-owned 'Champion Sparking Plug Company'. Equally, 'spark plug' is comparatively seldom found before about 1966.

Total hits:

Sparking plug - 385 (321 before 1966)

Spark plug - 252 (77 before 1966)

As the book which Wikipedia cites was published in 1975 and given my (admittedly unscientific) research above, I'd say it was actually pretty much on the button. Bosch themselves may even have been instrumental in the change, since the first 1966 hit in The Times for 'spark plug' is a Bosch advertisement.

A search of The Guardian produces similar results, with 358 hits for 'sparking plug' and 202 for 'spark plug'. 120 of the 'sparking plug' hits are in the 1920s alone, with a gradual decline every decade thereafter - to the extent that there are only 27 between 1970 and 2009 (significantly fewer than one a year). 'Spark plug' is found just 15 times before 1950 (and not at all in the 1930s), but peaks in the 1990s at 50 hits.

Ryan:

I never saw the Rodriguez car, but did see the George Eaton version. I posted before here, I consider it one of the best Can-Am liveries ever. Unfortunately performance wasn't on a par with its looks. I think Eaton got a 3rd at St Jovite, and Rodriguez likewise at Riverside. it needed more hp from the Chevy engines and more development.

I am wondering if Eaton and Rodriguez were both official BRM team entrants, or if they were separate teams. The entrants names have slightly different titles, but I wouldn't read too much into that. Thanks and good luck with the restoration, certainly worth doing.

Hi All

Thanks for your help and contributions, the car will make its first public appearance sing Rodriguez drove the car in 1970 next weekend at Goodwood.

The car is now completed and this week we will be carrying out the final setup on the car ready for its first run a week on Friday. If your at Goodwood feel free to come and say hi and have a chat

D28 - yes they were indeed BRM drivers however the can am team was more known as Castrol BRM for very obvious reasons.
