As the first races started last weekend we could start the season thread. I've decided to put the (few remaining) national F3 series and the F4 series in the same thread, Since the FIA is rating the F4 championships even a bit higher it doesn't sound like a bad idea I think....

National F3

BRDC British F3

Japanese F3

Euro Formula Open

Formula 3 Brasil

Australian F3

F4

Italian F4

ADAC F4

MSA F4

SMP F4

Spanish F4

US F4

Japanese F4

Australian F4

Mexican F4

South East Asian F4

Thanks. Did added that now.

Looks like Mick Schumacher and Prema will be very tough to beat in Italian F4 this year. 2nd race and 2nd win for him.

That was the Group B+C race, there are still two more this weekend (A+C, and the final).

Today was Group A vs. Group B and Group B vs. Group C, right?

Ah, so they are doing it the way we did in karting when I was racing? split them in three. Then race AC, AB, BC, add them together to get a final?

This is like the third F4 thread but it's a good idea to include the regional F3's.

Yes, the best 36 go into the final. All races are worth points for the championship though.

Great maneouvre from Guzman to take the lead after some nice defensive driving from Siebert.

Hmm, looks like he got away with that swerve into turn 1.

Stalled car at start/finish ends the race early, red flag.

Correa punts Cunati and retires a few corners later with steering damage. Instant karma

Seibert takes the lead from Guzman. Schumacher up to 7th.

A few penalties would help in making them slow down for local yellows.

Siebert wins. Schumacher recovers to 5th.

37 entries for ADAC F4 (quite a few overlapping with Italian F4), so the hype turned out to be empty. That said, a maximum of 35 will start the points paying races. http://www.paddocksc...f4-opener/34149

Awesome debut for Sophia Floersch in ADAC F4.

Finished 9th on her debut in single-seaters, And best rookie (all 8 drivers ahead of her are in their 2nd season in adac f4)!

And also worth mentioning is that she is the youngest driver in the field, she's only 15.

Finally a female driver worth watching for. She have a talent and potential for some big things.

She is starting from P6 tomorrow in race 2.

She's not listed as an official rookie, due to her 5 race weekends with Ginetta Juniors and ADAC trying to stop Lando Norris winning all the things last year.

MSA do the same thing, all F4 series in fact. Only karting graduates are classified as rookies.

meanwhile at Brands Hatch for the F3 there was a big crash but both drivers are OK (we find out how big it was when the highlights get shown unless someone was filming at Westfeild and got it on camera for youtube)

Shame that Florsch got torpedoed near the end there, she was running a strong 3rd. Mawson has dominated though and is the ADAC F4 title favourite.

Mick Schumacher wins 3rd race.

Yes, shame for Sophia. She was running in 6th place in race 2 and then a guy behind crashed into her, and she retired... In race 3 she was on her way to podium, and then in the last lap another guy crashed into her.  ):  Fortunately she was able to finish 5th even tho she was missing a rear wing. Some great driving without rear wing to hold drivers behind her in that final lap.

Shame for erratic driving of drivers which crashed into her, but still an amazing debut weekend for her. This girl is a real deal. ;)

Well it's going stay a crash-fest judging by the weekend as a whole.

I've been impressed by Colton Herta as well, already started winning in BRDC F3 (unfortunately he had to start from the back in race 1 and was wrecked out of race 2).

MSA do the same thing, all F4 series in fact. Only karting graduates are classified as rookies.

Wikipedia says:

Lando Norris was considered rookie for rounds 3 and 5, however prior to round 8, he was reclassified as a non-rookie and therefore his results and victories from this category have been erased. David Beckmann inherits the Brit's four rookie wins as he finished runner-up to Norris in all of them.

My memory is that half way through round 5 (Nurburgring) he just disappeared from the rookie standings, and ADAC rewrote history. He - or any of the other Ginetta graduates - were never considered as rookies by MSA.

Because... reasons? (Well, I suspect because the rookie cup being won by someone who showed up for three weekends looks bad, and it sort of looked like he might.) Rules say "no licenced track car racing" but they also say rookie status can be given at the organisers discretion.

You were expecting a racing series rules to make sense?

You must be new here  :p  :rotfl:

Though I suspect in that instance they didn't really count tintops as "real racing" and didn't realise that Norris will just win whatever you put him in.

Anyway... Joey Mawson looks nailed on to win ADAC unless Schumacher sneaks it, Floersch has done her rep no harm at all with that outing... points, running in 6th when punted out, and that last lap on the third race can easily be built up as a gritty 5th against the odds rather than a lost podium... 2nd wasn't really in her capabilities cos Mawson was just too good for her, but she did well holding him off that long for a first weekend in the series. Vips was an idiot for that jump start though.. no need for it at all.

Sennan Fielding really ought to be going for the MSA championship this year... everyone who beat him last year has graduated away from the series, and most people who were close as well.

You just pointed out they can give rookie status at their discretion. Is the rookie "title" name only or worth say prize money? If he did lose something then is there an appeal process?

I've criticised them for more serious stuff like driving conduct on track...this is minor in the grand scheme of things.

Sporting regulations say:

6.2 The ADAC Formula 4 Championship best rookie title will be awarded to the driver who has
scored the highest number of points, taking into consideration all the results obtained during
the Events which have actually taken place. Drivers will only be eligible for this title if, prior to
the 01. January 2016, he or she had not competed in any licenced car circuit racing.
Drivers will be considered eligible for this title at the absolute discretion of the ADAC / DMSB.

Organisational regulations say:

5.3 2015 ADAC Formel 4 Rookie Cup
The prizes below shall be awarded in the 2015 Rookie Cup:
1st place in the year-end standings = non-cash prize
2nd place in the year-end standings = non-cash prize
3rd place in the year-end standings = non-cash prize

(both available in English and German on the ADAC site)

The line I've heard is that less than 5 race events on a car track is where their discretion has placed the boundary.

I would suspect in Lando's case, it doesn't matter. He won the MSA championship, he's definitely not cash strapped.

And despite all that, they can't stop me thinking that Floersch is looking like the best rookie in class. 8th overall in the standings and twice as many points as the first "real" rookie after a DNF? She's looked like the real deal ever since the first Ginetta race at Brands Hatch last year, I ain't getting off this bandwagon just yet.

Yes, but he needs to move on from this entry-level category. I don't know if he has problems with funding but that's already his 3rd year in F4 level.

He is 20 years old, too old for still driving in entry-level series. He is the same age as for example Gasly or Sirotkin, guys which are in their 2nd season of GP2...

Why are Prema abscent from the second Italian round? If I remember correctly, at the time they announced their programme, the calendar was different and there was a conflict with the second round of ADAC F4, but the organizers changed it, so the drivers refused to pay for this extra round, or something else?

Floersch's comment about bump and run made me chuckle: http://www.motorspor...senring-734838/

He used all of his experience and completely covered the two or three ways there were of passing at Sachsenring. He made his car as wide as an 18-wheeler. In touring cars, you can tap the car ahead a little, move it out of the way. No such option in formula cars, which, if you ask me, is a shame.

I can also sympathise with the tedious nature of crash-SC-crash-SC that these races often devolve into.

Danger of starting in Ginetta Juniors.... the Dark Side shows you its power.
