The lack of pace from Mercedes is quite concerning.

Also they messed up the strategy.....

Occon seems to me that he'll get the Wickens treatment and get stuck in DTM. Nothing wrong with that, just some think the series is a stepping stone and fall off the map.

GP2 was a better option?

Let's see.

Depends on what Renault or Vasseur does....

If either Sirotkin or Rowland wins GP2, Esteban might see his F1 hope fade with Renault while having to pin hopes on Mercedes only.

I'm in Holland on Saturday 16th and planning to stop off at the Zandvort event in the afternoon, does anyone know if the Saturday DTM race is likely to be midday or in the evening?

The schedule is coming up in a week or so.

I am planning to go myself, although it would be for the Formula 3 races:)

Another classic  :rotfl:

Ekström crashes the two leading Merc Vietoris and Wickens out (this time without a push him out order   ;) )

Christian Vietoris has called @mattiasekstroem an "asshole" for crashing out the two leading Mercedes at #DTM Norisring. #AMuS

The race was awesome but Ekstrom really was an asshole with that bonehead GRX-esque move and blaming Wickens just for defending sensibly.

Leaders should always watch out for P3 in that corner.

Which is a bit ironic, seeing that Ekström is one of the, if not the cleanest driver in WRX.

With Ocon being promoted to F1 with Manor, Felix Rosenqvist will fill the void he has left at Mercedes's ART team starting at Moscow.

Thanks.

I guess i was a bit fooled by this page that says that practice 2 will start tomorrow morning.

http://www.dtm.com/en/live-experience

I just assumed practice 1 was over.

Has the BT commentator had some sort of warning not to point out when team orders are being imposed now? Couple of times Jamie Green was let past by other Audis on the straight today, obviously being punted up the order by the manufacturer, and he seemed to 'pretend' they were genuine passes

OK, I'm Swedish so clearly biased but what a day for Felix Rosenqvist in his third weekend in DTM. Best Mercedes in both quali and race and he's now ahead of Ocon in the table

I'm not Swedish, but even I think Rosenqvist is the real deal. Ocon? not so much.

Season final tomorrow: Wittmann wins the championship if he finishes 5th while Mortara wins

For once the silly season could be interesting: Scheider, Tomczyk & Da Costa are leaving. Mortara will likely switch from Audi to Mercedes next year.

Scheider just toay announced his retirement from touring car sport, so it's not known yet.

Tomczyk will focus on GT racing.

I wonder who will switch to GT Racing full time at Mercedes next year.

My bet would be Gotz,Juncadella and Vietoris.

And there's two less cars per team (manufacturer, sorry) next year.

That was a bloody great race from Mortara! Getting past 4 BMW's on track who are all trying to help out Wittmann. Hope he wins it today but can't see it happening.

Wasn't bad.

I did have to check, if I was actually watching DTM though, since, nobody banged into him, or took him off the road.

Mortara wins the race, but Wittmann (P4) is the new champion. Congrats!

Well deserved.

This race proved a bit for me why I hate it that just 3 Mfrs. are involved. Wittmann was never under danger to not seal the title as he was surrounded by other BMW drivers, who even attempted to crash Mortara out in the early stages. But that's how it always was.

Like last year Audi blowed the title in the end. Mortara was very unlucky over the year, especially when Audi thought that Green will be the main contender for the championship

Another great race by Mortara but his teammates let him down. He deserved the title IMO. Audi should have won the title in the last two years but Mercedes and BMW played the game better than them.

Not sure why really, but I was rooting for Mortara today. I think it's probably because I love that Audi's livery more than anything meaningful.

18 cars next year?? BMW, Audi, Merc all have more on in the motorsport world next year, with Formula E, TCR cars etc. Personally the DTM needs to get its finger out!! delay after delay after delay on rules, regs, engines, Super GT Merger?? it's almost shambolic and embarrassing!! This is a series that doesn't even know what it is at the moment, and this is supposed to be the pinnacle of touring car racing???  Am not a huge fan of today's DTM and any wonder, even series veterans are getting fed up with it as well!! The DTM Seriously needs to get its act together or maybe we could be witnessing 1996 all over again, and we all know what happened there........

DTM is not a series, it's a marketing vehicle. And if the marketing budget changes, so does the series.

The most regrettable fact is, that DTM diverts sponsoring away from actual racing series. There is so much better racing in Germany, that could need a euro or two.

Confirmed now: http://www.motorspor...or-2017-843710/

While neither Audi nor BMW have formally confirmed they would be downsizing as well, parity in car numbers between manufacturers is believed to have been a necessary stipulation of the negotiations, and Mercedes' statement makes it clear the reduction is a uniform decision. "Following the final decision that manufacturers will start the 2017 DTM season with six cars, we have investigated various implementation scenarios," Mercedes boss Ulrich Fritz said in a statement.

...

While Audi's Timo Scheider and BMW duo Antonio Felix da Costa and Martin Tomczyk have all confirmed they're bowing out of the DTM after 2016, all of Mercedes' eight drivers are yet to announce their plans.

DTM has been living through the lowest reputacional rank within motorsport drivers. They feel that the category is, somehow, manipulated. Not a great novelty, but that was said by one of them.

Well am sorry, but i think this is end of the DTM!! Mercedes have announced a 6 car opperation for next year all run by HWA!! So bye bye Mucke and ART GP!!!  So much talk of mergers, new regs, this that and the other??

Cant wait for Audi's plans after their WEC Bombshell, 6 car team all run by ABT or another Bombshell withdrawall????? And whos for the chop at BMW?? 4 teams 6 cars??? The DTM has just made itself pointless, so much so, it doesn't know what it is!! and even more so much so even the manufacturers, ITR, or anybody seems to care about the decline!! Am fed up of the DTM Nowadays!! I hope it dies soon, Cos this at one time was meant to be the pinnacle Touring Cars!! now its just joke and an F1 wannabe playground!!

So the manufactures run the series, yet they have made it too expensive to compete in it? What a bunch of muppets.

Indeed, they have made it what it is now!!, shame on all of them!!
