Sad news for those who recall Jan Hettema, 5 x SA Rally Champion, winner of the Roof of Africa and participant in numerous Monte Carlo and RAC rallies:

Jan is probably best remembered for the ferocious Chev CanAm V8 he rallied in the early 70s, but also became the first Toyota 'works' rally driver when he started the Monte Carlo in a factory-supported Corona.

I am in shock.

Another South African motor sportsman murdered. John McNicol and Jackie Pretorius come to mind.

 

Absolutely dreadful news. So senseless.

Jan was a real 'all rounder' and drove very successfully in rallies and endurance racing.
