Well he was the original Haas F1.
Carl slapping Chip
God CART was fun.

Sad news. RIP Carl. 86 is a fair old age to reach.

Carl’s experience in team ownership included owning and operating: a Can-Am Formula 5000 team in the 1970’s; a Formula 1 team in the 1980’s; a NASCAR team in the 1990’s; the Milwaukee Mile race track: the Houston Grand Prix race from 1998-2001; and creating, owning and operating one of the most successful Indy Car Teams, Newman Haas Racing, from 1983- 2011, where Mario Andretti spent the last eleven years of his illustrious racing career.
That's interesting, I didn't know about the Nascar effort.

RIP.
It's a shame the team folded in 2011. It was up there with Penske and Ganassi in terms of accolades.

A pioneer, and an important facet of racing in many formats. Sad of course, but 86 is a pretty good age.

An American racing icon. RIP Carl.
Posted 07 July 2016 - 18:38
That is sad news.
I am still sad about the fact that, after all he did for US single seater racing he has always been denied to make a victory lap with one of his drivers and his partner Paul.
It would have been appropriate had he (& Paul Newman) at least won once at Indy. Regrettably success at Indy is the yardstick to which being sucessful or not is measured. Using it on Carl gives you a `false negative` judgement.
Rest in peace Carl, and thanks for the memories.
Henri

I had no idea he was so old, I would have put him at early seventies. He would have won the 500 had it not been for the idiot. RIP.

i have a feeling this weekend indycar race will have one of those minutws hush before the green flag

Sad news indeed - That such a vigorous man should be taken by a wasting disease is cruel.

Wow, one of the most influential individuals in motorsposts has left us. Just occured to me if anyone has a list of the "A" list drivers who peddaled Carl's entries as well as up and commers he helped along their way. Sad news.

Mid-90s with Michael Kranefuss, who was running racing operations for Ford. Team was called Kranefuss-Haas Racing IIRC, running No. 37 Thunderbirds with John Andretti and I think Jeremy Mayfield up, Kmart and Little Caesar's sponsorships. Middling results.

RIP Carl, we've lost both sides of the Newman Haas partnership now, though they both lived to a ripe old age.

I have spent the last few weeks watching CART/Champcar/Indycar seasons from 1995 - up to 2002 atm.
Carl Haas is a legend of motor sport, I am shattered by the news.
RIP sir.

Don't forget Haas-Carter into the early 00s

No kidding- a true icon. And loyal to Champ Car (CART) to the bitter end... and I doubt anyone else could have gotten old "nige over here right after his F1 championship.
RIP...

Second major motorsport icon has passed on. I am sorry to both Families for their loss, they contributed so much to motorsport all over the world and they won't be forgotten.
Rest in Peace.
