Hello

I stumbled on the figure of Alfonso Toledano by chance, and I discovered he was one of the best Mexican drivers of his era and, even more than that, a renowned team owner and championship promoter and organizer until his early death from kidney disease and diabetes. I think I was his FB friend at the time, and I remember when he passed away.

While doing my research, I discovered that his career stagnated after his success in FF1600 with Van Diemen when he was a teammate to Quique Mansilla and Ayrton Senna. Despite trying to forge a career in Europe and progressing through FF2000 and F3, he never achieved true success. He returned to Mexico, where he developed a long and successful career, only returning to the international scene in 1989 and 1990, occasionally driving for Team Davey in Group C.

Anybody has more info and details about his career, please? I know we have highly rated-Mexican enthusiasts and historians here.

Best Regards

I seem to remember him racing a PRS chassis In FF1600 in 1979 and 80. Have a few pictures of him racing in FF1600 in 79 and 80, will have to dig them out to check, He took part in the 79 Festival.

These Infos were the sole ones I could find on the better Databases around the web. I didn't dig much on social media, and most of the google entries refer to his death and his career in general; there isn't great detail.

It was a black  PRS in 1980. Then he moved on to  Van Dieman.

The british FF1600 scene was very good in 1980, he raced against Palmer, Julian Bailey,Moreno, Byrne, Boesel, Peter Argetsinger to name a few

Poor scan from a photo of Alfonso (No. 1) at Thruxton in 1980.

A little story:-

One day at Silverstone, a particular, rather dirty driver (who, hypocritically posted here), tipped me on my head.

In the paddock, after the race, I was reflecting on my bruises with Alfie.

"Ah yeah. I know 'eem" he said. "Don't worry, I get 'eem"

Didn't think much more about it but 2 weeks later there was a picture in Motoring News, of my 'rival' flying through the air at Snetterton after a collision with - you've guessed it - Alfonso.

Accidentally I'm sure,,,

Maybe you can get some information by checking his son's Facebook page. Picho (Alfonso Jr.) Toledano is/was also a race driver
