Daly retired his car on the outside of the front straight after 61 laps due to a puncture. After he got out of the car, an official grabbed his arm and tried to lead him behind the safety fence, but Daly instead ran across the track to the pits, bringing back memories of the terrible accident involving Tom Pryce back in 1977.
Did Daly receive any censure or fine for this disregard of the safety rules?
He should have done, as it wouldn't of been only his life over if he would of been hit Even by the lax standards of 1980, the fact that Daly even thought about it is bad enough, but crossing at almost the same spot as Van Vuuren ended both his and Pryce's life is beyond comprehension.
Although I feel F1 today has become over sanitized, at this point in time it was still by and large a cowboy industry.
