So... to kick things off, Banco do Brazil have bolted from Sauber... making their decision a few years back to change their entire paint scheme to BDB colours look a bit foolish...

Very hopeful to see them do something a bit more exciting with the livery... although they do have a history of choosing their colours based on the title sponsors logo...

Just as long as they don't revert to that horrible grey livery.

Also... now that Ron has gone from McLaren, perhaps they will deviate from the current scheme and let the livery be changed...

The field needs more variation between teams liveries, particularly Mclaren and Force India. We do NOT need any more black and silver cars on the grid. How about a nice green? Or orange! Maybe even purple! That would be nice...

And while I appreciated Sauber being different, they have looked like a collection of lego bricks these past two seasons.

No. Just no.

Here's an excerpt from a blog I read this morning:

..I didn’t want to buy my cars from dealerships with “Buy Here, Pay Here” written in soap on the windows of car-colored 6-year-old Toyota Camrys.

(An ex-boss once explained to me what a car-colored car was. It’s a shade of purple you would only see on a late model Toyota Camry. It does not appear in nature, and no one would ever wear clothes in one of those shades. It’s a car-color.)...

edit: Here's the link to the blog. It's wildly exciting (for an accountant like me).

I hope Red Bull keeps their current livery

I won't be surprised if they change it up a bit. It's only a couple of races per season, but IMO the matt livery looked terrible in the night races under lights. The Renault matt livery didn't suffer from the same issue, so hopefully Red Bull can tweak theirs up a bit to improve it under both natural and artificial light.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see more matt liveries next season. Which may result in quite a shake-up in terms of colours at those teams who do go down that route.

Yep I expect Sauber to change radically - hopefully, as said, not that grey (it looked fantastic on launch but on track it was hideous).

McLaren might change a bit depending on sponsorship and Manor is up in the air too.

Otherwise I don't expect too much change.

Definitely McLarenHonda's current livery could be a looker in matte finish. With more red it could be even better.

Just to give you a similar reference:

No Infiniti , no "shiny purple"

Is next years livery already decided then?

Mercedes:

Will Petronas hang on? I still don't like their livery. I think it is dull.

RB:

See above, would be fun to have them in a brighter color setup. Main theme is still quite dark. Like their current livery though. The car almost gave light in the Brazil darkness.

Ferrari:

I do hope Ferrari gets his color (and mojo) back. The last time they used white it was the abysmal 1993 Ferrari. So, crimson red and black wings please with no weird stuff at the back.

FI:

Kinda like their current livery, but would not be heartbroken if they change it.

Williams:

Will still have Martini. Perhaps with some Stroll brands to the side?

McLaren:

Could use more of the West livery it had end nineties. Car is just to dark now and the color nuances don't transfer to TV very well.

Haas:

Don't know about that one. Not bad, not particulary good.

Manor

Keep it, looks nice

Renault:

One of the best imo. Flashy yellow looks great between all the dull cars.

Toro Rosso:

Please, make it a bit brighter. Looks very dark on TV almost all the time.

Sauber:

Don't care. Looks and runs like an Ikea cupboard.

I actually think the Renault would look better in a glossy yellow.

I'm fairly positive Ferrari will ditch the white (seems to bring them bad luck, see 1993).

With Exxonmobil and Ron gone, I expect the livery to change.

It would be refreshing to see a non-Petronas Mercedes. Turquoise and silver just don't match.

A change in the Toro Rosso livery is long overdue. It has stayed virtually the same for over a decade now!

that Ferrari livery looks way nicer in person than on pic, I was surprised by how lovely it looks on track live.

All it needs is design/graphic refinement and better shaped car.

Maybe we might see a bit of green on the grid next year since BP might be supplying McLaren's oil.

Give me an entirely red Ferrari with black wings

Prema (sponsored by FDA now with Leclerc & Fuoco) moved for a similar solution in Post-Season Abu Dhabi testing.

mclaren only looks good from overhead or upper rear angle, that's the problem, if they continue with black/red then it seriously needs some red for frontal view (but not in 2015 "predatory" way....why not "edge" solution they sort of pioneered in mid-00s). Also would be nice to integrate gloss and matte black, like matte geometric pattern on gloss foundation (or vice versa).

posted this joke several times in mc thread but mc should seriously make use of this vanta black paint :D

it's water/oil repellent iir

Well, with Red Bull's fuel supplier changing we'll definitely see some sort of changes. No more Total red (which was easy to integrate with the rest of their livery), probable addition of ExxonMobil colours (should be easy as well, but likely to require some tweaks).

The white spaces in the early 2000 Ferraris were a substitute for the Marlboro decals.

The white areas in the SF16-H were a tribute to the 70s Ferraris. They're different.

Well either way we have seen lots of white in Ferrari livery before and had no problem with it, and to be honest, I didnt have problems with this year's livery either, to be honest I actually liked it compared to fully red. Then again if they decide to change the livery again, I wont particularly miss this year's livery either.

That being said that Vodafone Ferrari livery is propably my favorite Ferrari livery from past 16 years.

I'd love to see the Haas livery changed. It needs more red, and the two-tone sidepods do it no favors whatsoever. Also, I wish Red Bull's blue didn't look black half the time.

Nice to see the build up to 2017 liveries is starting super early, we can all raise our expectations extra high this year only to be disappointed by 2016 liveries with minor tweaks.

I'd like to see blue back but not as a basic colour like Sauber run it. The blue of the 2001 Prost was really nice.

11918.jpg

I think we may see some more teams going matte for 2017.

Not sure that McLaren will change livery drastically. What's the point in changing now when they're eyeing to sign up a title sponsor in 2018? Then they would have to change again...

Ok and let's presume they will change the livery and incorporate orange in it. Let's say they'll use that as a base colour like they did with their chrome colours. Chrome matched quite nicely with the red from Vodafone, but imagine they'd used orange as team colour and then they'd have to add the Vodafone branding. Wouldn't be a nice combination imho.

The current black livery leaves open more options. And I also think Honda are quite happy with the current livery, After all it's very Type R like...

hopefully ferrari return to all the all red livery....wouldn't mind a matte finish either

keep the exposed carbon fiber at the base for the sponsors and the dream would be black wings but don't know how realistic this is considering the Santander and Shell sponsorship

Yep, some in the team are convinced when they have a white car, they do badly, so its being changed back to red for this year.

I found the 2008 car a bit *too* red; I think if it was Ferrari scarlet rather than Marlboro watered-down red it would look good, but in this shade its just a bit much, IMHO...

The F2008 was never in the Marlboro red. The F2007 was launched in Marlboro red, but from Monaco onward it was that lovely dark metallic red, which the F2008 retained.

I agree that the Marlboro red was horrible, especially so much of it. The car looked neon.

The metallic red however, was fantastic.

Regarding this thread, with Red Bull Juniors Sergio Sette Camara and Niko Kari joining GP2 and GP3 with MP Motorsport and (probably) Arden, it looks like livery changes will be in order to accommodate the RB colours. Question is, what do you think the other non-RB MP and Arden liveries look like?

And while we're on the subject, looks like we could see a few 2017 F1 liveries drip into the feeder series:

Prema will be fielding three Ferrari juniors in GP2 and Euro F3 respectively, so we may see a combination of the colours of both Prema and the Scuderia.

With Louis Deletraz set to join Racing Engineering in GP2, could we see one of the RE machines splashed with the Renault colours (likely all-yellow).

If Oliver Rowland joins DAMS as predicted, I predict a RSF livery on his car and a blue and yellow RSF-style livery on the second DAMS machine.

Carlin will probably splash a Force India livery on Jehan Daruvala's Euro F3 machine.

It's possible the RB livery will be splashed onto two FR2.0 machines, those of Luis Leeds and, if he joins, Richard Verschoor.

Wherever Marcus Armstrong and Enzo Fittipaldi lands next year, you can beat a Ferrari-style livery will be added to their cars.

For a moment I thought this was the livery design thread. Is there a template for the '17 spec cars?

As for the grid, well for thos most part I expect it to look the same. I would love to see McLaren go for silver and orange though.

I think due to the dedennisation of McLaren, I wouldn't be surprised to see a livery change along with a new way of naming the cars away from the MP4 tradition. Another way to stamp out his legacy in the guise of 'moving it forward'

Without a valid template and a dedicated thread there seams little point. I've done my own 2017 colour scheme but only on the 2015/16 template. The rear wing changes means someone has to take time out to make a number of mods to be more reflective of what the teams will turn out in March.

So my excuse is that so many changes will be required the Synergy F1 team won't be ready with the 2017 car till the second test and the image below is a 2016 car to test the livery and give our new second seat driver in Carlos Munos some track time. With regards to last season we made some progress but the lowlight must have been the F1 debuted drive of Carmen Jorda at her home Grand Prix. Closest she got to the next slowest was 3.5secs off the lap time and we switched her plans thereafter using Simona de Silvestro on two occasions. Pair of solid drives and we had more fun. In all the baby blue and pink car won us 7 points.
A green car for 2017. As per Pantone's colour of the year being "Greenery". Internally we will be calling her the Green Monster. Two shades of it, depending on which surface it's placed, rgb of 136,176,75 and 132,189,0.
Goodby CNN and Esso. Hello BP and Cinsay.
Kobayashi leaves the team and we take Matsushita as the development driver on the basis he gets the Japanese GP drive.

Thanks for this. I now remember they did change the shade, I had completely forgotten.

I still thought it looked brighter than the old cars, but maybe its just now we have bright HD coverage, whereas the old footage is a lot darker.

And then there's Sean Bull's 2017 Ferrari which is undoubtedly stunning but slightly less realistic because the sponsors are unlikely to drop their colors.
