He was one of the first car guys who knew about the importance of Ferrari- and Maserati- race cars.

Joel Finn wrote the first comprehensive books about the Trident cars from Modena and the Ferrari TR.

May he Rest in Peace

Thank you, JoBo, for advising us of Joel's passing. Sad news to lose another authority on 1950s racing and sports cars. I'm sure most TNFers motoring library will have one of his works on their shelves. As you also say, a collector of some fine competition cars in his time.

Sad to know he passed away. I enjoyed enormously his excellent book about the Cuban races, well-researched, thoroughly documented and above all pleasantly written. Condolences to his family and friends.

Very sad news. Just recently I've been reading "Sunshine, Speed and a Surprise" signed by Joel and lent to me by someone who played a role in it.

My condolences to the Finn family.

Given his recent failing health, this is not much of a surprise, Joel not looking all that well the last time we had dinner in Hershey with the news since then only getting worse.

I have his book on the Ferrari 250TR.

Once at the Monterey Historics, I saw him climb out of a GLEAMING Maserati 4CLT and climb into an ex-Andretti Lotus.  Someone asked him how he was doing.  His response..."Bored"
