I've just seen on a friend's FB feed that former Team Lotus and McLaren mechanic and Tui designer Allan McCall has died. I'm sorry, I don't know any more details, maybe someone closer to him can add something?

This is very sad: Allan was tremendously helpful to me when I was writing my Lotus 49 book and he just had a wonderful, colourful way with words which was a dream when it came to quotes!

RIP Allan

Very very sad news. If anyone has more Information I'd appreciate it. Especially his birth date.
Underrated man, a brilliant designer. Modest with it too. RIP

That's so very sad :(

Many years ago, he once emailed me about something I wrote, and I had to look twice at the sender - THE Allan McCall? A completely down-to-earth kind of guy, but I sadly lost contact soon after.

Thanks for the info. I guess I think of these guys constantly as they were in the photos in the 1960s and, like all of us, they get old but complications following surgery sounds as if it might have been preventable, which is even more sad.

Hi Reinhard,

I think it's the way it's written - http://www.legacy.co...200221?cid=full - this seems to have it down as Allan James McCall, which makes more sense.

Oh dear.  Have only just been told by Phil Reilly - head down, I was unaware of this terribly sad news.  Most sincere condolences to this great character's surviving family and friends...

These days I only get Motor Sport at the local newsagent (in Australia) as a surface mail copy - picking up the January issue during this week. Reading DCN's column I see Allan is mentioned in his 1967 Tasman piece.

My condolences to Allan's family and friends.

That was an error by the newspaper. They got it right the following day.
