Big fan of this special lid for Alonso for his 24hr entry.

Keep it simple this year, lads. PLEASE!

Iconic, simple, great. Hopefully he'll carry it out in the F1 season too.

Unfortunately the big Halo will cover it, but still..

The halo, ruining helmets since they appeared.

I remember seeing Alonso say to Soffel "Looks better without the halo" when Lando was testing the car in Budapest. He isn't wrong.

Alonso was referring to the white band many teams run on their helmets rather than the head protection device

Yeah, the sponsor halo really is a curse to helmet design.

Btw, can we have more of non-F1 helmet designs in here?  There are many lovely ones in FE, WEC, IndyCar... and they change more often than the F1 ones, too... since not restricted by dumb rules.

Seconded. You can always rely on MotoGP for some great designs, for a start.

Perhaps the halo on the cars will cancel out the need for a halo on the helmets?

Well done Fernando, that looks like a racing driver helmet, a real piece of class. Hope that a few others take this as their cue and we get a few more that are not the usual mix of sponsors logo's and hot rod show spray-can graffiti art that some drivers seem to prefer these days.

This is the guy that is doing more for world motorsport than any other man has for decades.

Racing in other series, massively increasing theirs and his profile and doing it with a smile on his face.  So I would expect nothing more than class from his one off lid designs as the man is simply that. Class.

A thing a few world champions of the past and present might remember.

Agree with this - hopefully it starts something of a culture change in F1. There's really no reason why more of them shouldn't race at an event like the Rolex 24 - no F1 testing or any other commitments to get in the way.

We're always going on about how this or that would have worked better on the drivers' helmets, so how about we try to do it ourselves?

It'd be kind of cool for someone in the forum to win this one, huh?

That's a bit naïve, no? Alonso was able to go and race the Indy 500 thanks to Honda in the States, and their lack of competitiveness in F1. He wasn't sacrificing anything in F1 to head there. And he's now running in Daytona as his present team boss owns the team. Where Montoya, and a lesser extent Kimi and Hulk went before, Alonso now follows. It would be good to see more F1 racers spread their wings, but with 20+ races and all sorts of commercial clashes it's fairly unrealistic to expect many of them to be given the go ahead to do so.

As for FA's new lid, it's definitely one his better ones, which begs the question as to how his F1 efforts can be so horrendously cack, like the majority of the grid. Sponsors do get in the way a bit, but they all tend to suffer from over-design.

It's a bit ironic that this competition is for the helmet which is the cleanest and one of the nicest of the grid.

Regarding Alonso, I always thought his F1 helmet is really nice, especially the colour scheme I find particularly pleasant. I can imagine his pre 2006 variants were more bold and stronger in concept, but his recent ones I find nice as well. Especially the 2015 one with a white band on the top.
And somehow, while being quite busy in terms of lines, etc it still makes sense and looks nice, unlike the total mess of say Grosjean, Hulkenberg, Perez, etc.
So for me top 3 is easily
1. Bottas
2. Alonso
3. Vettel

Honorable mention to Stroll.
Hamilton's yellow one was very nice too.

Alonso's extracurricular helmets always seem to be better than his F1 ones. He hasn't run anything that simple and fresh since his Minardi days.

Giovinazzis lid, just missing the sponsors. Have seen it on twitter with the Alpha logo, looks fantastic!

Looks a bit of a mess. Generic F1 helmet design with a block of colour and attached to that some daft go faster line leading off at one corner. Perhaps the same guy that designs most of the grid, and that is his signature design.

Yeah, all look like the generic section of an F1 game with made up helmets that you couldn’t pick out of a lineup.

Show anyone (even self proclaimed hardcore f1 fans) that helmet and they wouldn’t immediately be able to tell you the drivers name. (If you covered his name up on the side!)

Possibly because it echoes the 70's and when full-face helmets appeared.(???)

How come Alonso has superb designs when he's not in F1 (and that includes his pre-F1 days), yet when he gets to the Pinnacle of Motorsport, he perennially dons a shower of ADHD crap?

Some blue for Raikkonen this year, and also the Ferrari Crest on the front.

I think it will look better from the front, at least, and the black will contrast nicely with Vettel's design from this direction as well.

The blue is very reminiscent of his 2003-5 helmet design.

Maybe it is the bad designs that prevent Kimi performing well 🤔

His first design was a straight copy of sportscar/DTM racer Klaus Ludwig's.

Each to their own but Alonso's 24h design is a beauty. Really not a fan of the bright, shiny and overly busy designs the vast majority of drivers seem to go for year after year.

Smooth and simple is where it's at. Would like to see some more matte looking finishes too. Get rid of the sparkly glitter crap please boys!

I think it will look fantastic. Full Black front, the 7 on the side, and that shade of blue is the touch that makes it all come alive (possibly because it's a blue similar to the colours of my simracing team  ).

I also am never going to buy one of their products, although I suspect that is more out of budgetary restraints than from principles!

It's a sign of putting every last bit of effort to bringing back the winning. ;)

It will look much better in real life than in the render.
