Finally out of hibernation!
Very tight rear end, very small air intakes, bargeboards seem to be very simple compared to the others.
mirrors seem to be fascinating, but everyone will probably have them as well by the last testing session.
last but not least..... it looks fast!
Hype train tickets anyone?

I did a quick comparison. Of course, accuracy is low, a little bit different angles, etc.
Does anyone remember what were the speculated wheelbase lengths of Ferrari and Mercedes in 2017?

Wow - the front view shows just how much skinnier the car is this year. Great job from Ferrari.
That should hopefully make it a bit less draggy which was definitely necessary following performances like Silverstone and Monza last year.

It looks fast
I think all F1 cars look pretty fast. That's why they are F1 cars.

The top inlets seen on the sidepods (ones furthest away from car) is to help pass the air through a gap, back to the rear, not channel it inside through the car as first thought. The bottom inlet (where the arrow is) is probably just to support the floor, channel it underneath to keep the car more to the ground.
It seams this car is to show how air is distributed without being to fussy/busy with it's design.

Think it's just detail too dark to resolve by brightening the image.

Here's a better shot on how the intakes work with the sidepods and the mirrors.
You can really see it's about how to distribute the air efficiently back to the car to create the best down-force levels without drag.
Quite fascinating really.

Very interesting side pods for sure. Hope it's fast but I have to say, the era of "beautiful" looking F1 cars is officially over. The halo is just utterly disgusting. Not one single car looks good. Uggghhh
Love how Ferrari have a Marlboro logo on the sharkfin. I thought tobacco advertising was banned?

Those are similar to the vanes Mercedes first introduced in 2016? Red Bull also incorporated them into their floor design last year.

Looks more like a crushed black (i.e. the pixel is BLACK and not just dark - happens a lot in poor digital photography).

Looks like it. The exposure was off, the camera registered a simple 0,0,0 colour and the JPG compression just makes it worse.
Or someone played with the levels a bit too much in Photoshop.

😂That's a McLaren like nose.

If those mirrors did anything useful, they wouldn't be on the launch car and would have been painted red.
It's a decoy.

I think it's hideous.Side view looks awful towards the rear, looks high and bulbous.
But the fin and halo look massive compared to most cars.
So I guess it's pretty tight

No offence, but that looks even worse. Some of us still live in the 90s!

The whole chunk from airbox back is probably the most obvious change. Not fooling you, no.
They do have a longer 'top slot' though, and an increased size, Mercedes-style airbox.
It's pretty impressive what they did here, and to boot, the shoulders of the sidepods are narrower as well.
It's really ugly now so I guess it must help

Lenovo are a new sponsor, aren't they?
I think they are. And i just noticed AMD is back as well, just on the nose though. I think they left in 2013 or something?

The livery from the car and their suits really looks empty now without Marlboro... it doesn't necesarily mean it's good nor bad, just that it takes a while to get used to it.

Good to see the Alonso sponsor finally gone. Money is money, but there was always a bad karma around Santander.

I'm really loving this shade of red and it's propensity.
Here's to hoping it's a great car.

#189
Posted 22 February 2018 - 22:31
longer car, much better packaging around the back end (which I 'm sure the longer car helped with), tiny sidepods, tiny cooling openings. Looks like they are aiming for Mercedes' strengths, should be a fun season, even if it means RB will just inherit slow track dominance.

I despise this whole high rake philosophy. An F1 car should be almost stuck to the road at all times, I reckon I could hide under one of these modern cars. Ugh.

It could be for cooling the battery or control electronics..
Or maybe it ducts air through the chassis and dumps under the gearbox, over the diffuser.

The grey is there because of Phillip Morris, I have a funny feeling something is coming to the engine cover and rear wing.

Its very red and very curvy. Don't see a lot not to like, as long as it is also fast.

Yes, they look like the black, dead and empty eyes of the masked, evil psychopath serial killer Michael Myers from 'Halloween'. Well, try not to think about their dreams piercing and relentless stare too much...
