I have heard that Bernard Boyer, former Matra engineer, died on 19th March at 83 years old. He was responsible, amongst others, for the Matra with which Jackie Stewart won his first World Championship in 1969. He also raced quite successfully in Formula Junior, including driving a Lotus 18 in 1960 for the EdGer team with Henri Grandsire. I met him quite a few times when it appeared that I owned his old car. I understand that after he retired from designing F1 cars, he continued working for Matra, but on missiles!

He was a great engineer and designer about whom I seem to know very little. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Very sad news.

A man, who to the world at large, was very much an unsung hero. Matra wouldn't have had nearly as much success without his input. A very loyal, dedicated engineer.

However, to those in the know, I got the distinct impression he was extremely respected (as DCN alludes to above) and feted for his work with Matra.

RIP.
