Instead of opening a new thread I chose to re-animate this one.

Despite my lists in the „Happy Birthday“ thread there are many car racing related people which I don’t know birth dates for.

Maybe this is the way to fill some of those gaps. As a start I shall restrain my inquiry to letters A & B (with more to follow if this proves to be successful).

Here's a couple, I'll try to find some more when I have more time:

Ian Appleyard, born 10th October 1923, died 2nd June 1998
H. J. (Harold John) Aldington, born 5th September 1902, died 1st April 1976

BTW I think it should be Sydney not Sidney Allard, born June 1910 (no date) died 12th April 1966.

Thank you, Narcís! (Do you know whether César Apezteguía is still alive?)

Adam, Ken & Richie – the three of you can be trusted!
Why don’t you just post everything you have and save myself the trouble of asking?

It’s a pity that Jimmy Piget obviously left us some time since last August. :(
He should have been able to help with the French ones.
Unfortunately in most other countries nobody seems to care.
But nevertheless I’m encouraged to put up the next bunch of names (letters C – F).

I have Connew's, but I'm not by my notes at the moment. I'll get to it soon, remind me if I don't post it soon. There may be a few more, but I'd need to check - might be a dew days yet.

I think I can find England's. When did he die? Was it early 1994? If so, that's another one I can do.

Again, with Catlin, when did he die? I can find out via SSDI.

Lofty England died on May 30th, 1995 at the age of 83. I have a year of birth (1911) but no date.

Gleb Derujinsky b. 13 Aug 1888 d. March 1975

That’s not the one I’m looking for but his father, Russia-born woodcarver Gleb Derujinsky. The one I’m looking for is the woodcarver’s son who became a famous photographer and did some motor racing in the 1950s. So he should be born in the 1920s or 1930s.

I was looking for the Formula 3 driver of the late 1970s.
Is this the same man
(which would mean he was competing in F3 at the tender age of 50)?

I don't know if I have the F3 driver birthday. Let me search it.

Iñaki Goiburu: 20/12/1966

I'm not sure about this birthday because I've Iñaki as being born in France: Saint Jean de Luz, in the French 'Basque Country' (near Spain).

However, he has always run in Spain. Maybe he has a dual citizenship. Can it be?

I found two dates all by myself.

Foxhall Keene: born 18 Dec 1867, died 25 Sep 1941

László Hartmann: born 17 Aug 1901, died 16 May 1938

I found another two:
Curt Delfosse: born 30 May 1912, died 21 Jul 1998
(only recently did I realize that he didn’t die in Argentina,
but in Oregon, USA – one look into SSDI and voilà!)
Lindsey Hopkins: born 10 Mar 1908, died 14 Feb 1986

EDIT: Delfosse’s life dates were already here on TNF.

I’m a little bit surprised (and slightly disillusioned) about the response to my queries.

Are there really no birth dates known of such illustrious people like Dick Barbour, Derek Bennett, Peter Berthon, Mario Casoni, Fernand Charron, Vivion Daly, Albert Divo, Michel Doré, John Edgar, Hughes de Fierlandt, Archie Frazer-Nash, Clive Gallop, Derek Gardner, Pietro Ghersi, Taf Gosselin, Sid Greene, Ken Gregory, Kenelm Lee Guinness, Albert Guyot, Ernest Henry, Marianne Hoepfner, Bob Holbert or Ligurd Hornsted, to name but a few?

Best I can come up with for Kenelm Lee Guinness is between mid-April and December 1887. He was stated to be 49 at the inquest into his suicide, which was reported by The Times under the headline "Racing Motorist's Delusions".

Thank you, Richard!
I had never read that Kenelm Lee Guinness died from his own hand. :(
Oh, and I also have only the year of his death - 1937.

Oh, and I also have only the year of his death - 1937.

He was found dead in a bedroom at his home; Melbury, Kingston Hill, Kingston-on-Thames on Saturday April 10th 1937 (the day of the Empire Trophy at Donington Park), having apparently gassed himself. He was buried at Putney Vale Cemetery on April 14th.

At the inquest his brother Sir Algernon testified that KLG had never really recovered from his crash at San Sebastian in 1925 and had become increasingly mentally unstable. KLG's doctor further explained that he had suffered from delusions and that he had been previously admitted to a nursing home in this connection. Sir Algy produced a sealed letter which he had received that morning via KLG's executor which the coroner read and offered his opinion that it indicated the probability of suicide. The doctor's opinion was that KLG had been better in recent weeks and that the suicide was a "sudden, impulsive act". Verdict: Suicide while of unsound mind.

Griff Borgeson was born in Berkeley, CA if that helps anyone with access to US birth records

Source: cover blurb for "Golden Age of the American Racing Car". I have the 1966 edition, but later copies might have his dates in the Library of Congress bibliographical details.

The racing Dunfee brothers were two of the four sons of Colonel Vickers Dunfee (April 30th 1861 - February 17th 1927). One of the four (possibly the last) was born on June 29th 1912 in Putney. I can't find any previous or later birth announcements back to 1880.

Clive was described as the third son in his death notice in The Times.

Another couple of bits of the Dunfee jigsaw:

The youngest son was Geoffrey Edgar Dunfee, killed on active service on August 21st 1944.

I haven't found a death notice for Jack, but if his middle name was Lawson then "In memoriam" notices appeared in The Times on September 13th in both 1976 and 1977, so perhaps he died 13/9/75?

ED HUGUS
It is with deep sadness that I must
report to you that Edward James Hugus died
on June 29, 2006, one day before his 86th birthday ...

What a sad way to learn what you’ve asked for.

Edit
But it doesn’t take long until a question mark pops up!

Okay, „July“ should read „June“. However, was Hugus born in 1920 or 1923?

Not a date I'm afraid, but a brief biographical reference re LG Hornsted. I hit a brick wall looking for details of him after his Hornsted Motor Co went bankrupt in 1924, but there's a reference in Reggie Tongue's "High Speed Diary" to him being head of the service department at Dennis (dustcarts and fire engines - a long way from Brooklands!) in the early 1930s.

Are you sure about „Aldo“? I only ever saw „Alo“. Googling „Aldo Lawler“ produces zero hits.

Doug Nye told us about Cyril Posthumus’ sad ending. Does anyone know when he died?

Regarding Joe Lencki I’ve seen the SSDI dates, too. But they do not correspond with the info from this site: „born at the turn of the 20th century“, „died in May of 1994 at the age of 93“ (Lencki from SSDI was younger and died in February 1994).

What is the surname: Harvey-Noble or just Noble? Is Harvey part of the surname or the second given name?

I know - you posted these dates on TNF before. Therefore I asked for „the younger one“ (F3 driver of the late 1960s, F2 driver of the early 1970s).
Anyway many thanks for the Liefeldt dates. (What happened that caused him to die at 43?)
