Stuart Lewis-Evans was a well known F1 driver of the 50ies, even over here in Germany.
Recently I worked over results of 500c.c. F3 from the early 50ies and came across
L. Lewis-Evans. I suppose that's Stuart's brother. But unfortunately I have no idea what happened to him later. Does anybody know about his fate? And what's the L. standing for?

Not his brother, Udo, but his father! Not sure what the L stands for, but something in the back of my mind says "Les" - probably wrong though!!! Steve Small plays safe and just calls him "Pop"!

I think his full name is given in the DSJ book on Vanwall, but I can't check, as my copy has gone AWOL!

So his name really was Lewis Lewis-Evans?!

I still would like to keep this going as I hope to get more info on this man. I only have the bare results, maybe someone knows more.

Slightly O.T, but possibly of some interest to non-British members.

Although Pop Lewis-Evans, and presumably Stuart also, were born in South London, there is clearly a Welsh connection with both Lewis and Evans being Welsh surnames.

Living as I do now in the heart of North Wales, I can tell you that there are a very large number of gentlemen in Wales who are, IMHO rather bizarrely, named Hugh Hughes, William Williams, Robert Roberts, Evan Evans and John Jones. Although I cannot say I have ever met a Lewis Lewis!

Fans of fotball may also know that the father of Gary and Phil Neville is Neville Neville. Whether English or Welsh football would benefit if we could establish a connection, i couldn't possibly say.

We spectators had to do a runner when 'Pop' Lewis Evans Cooper-Norton came over the safety bank at Silverstones Copse Corner in May 1955. Fortunatley for him, he was one of the few drivers to wear seat belts at that time!.
