Very sad to learn of Craig's passing. RIP.

This man, more than any other, was responsible for my keen interest in motorsports which has not flagged in fully 50 years.

I was spectating from the infield at Mosport in 1962 just back-track from the reknowned Corner #2. Sort of between the crest of T2 and the tunnel underpass. I watched in amazement as Craig slid his Triumph TR4 over the crest and down, out of view. The first pass I witnessed, I expected to see yellow flags waving but no, this became SOP as he did it lap after lap. Right there and then, I said to myself, 'I just have to do this!'

Thanks for the memories, Craig.

Following on from the Canadian Formula Atlantic post above, we've just published the final instalment of the British series:

British Formula Atlantic 1983

Huge credit due to Chris Townsend who has spent years researching and documenting all the races and cars from eleven seasons of fondly-remembered motor racing.

while googling a bit about pro cyclist Alex Dowsett who I saw racing in Glasgow at the weekend , I came across his twitter homepage which has a pic of a Formula Atlantic holding area...Oulton Park?...turns out his dad is Phil Dowsett...I had never made the connection before...

think that's Bernard Hunter in the Ralt with Phil behind in the Swan Lager car... https://twitter.com/alexdowsett

Cheers Ian

Quite right Ian, and thats Paul Smith's 782 behind Phil. Next to them is Dave Allen in the Uniroyale Surtees TS10, I don't think I've ever seen that on fil before. And in front of them all, is it the Lebacq???? 1979 photo I think

Rather oddly one of Atlantics at Laguna Seca the other weekend, a March 78B that was originally one of Cliff Hansen's cars, was done up in Phil Dowsett's Pinch/Martin's newsagents livery! As "tribute" paintjobs go, it made a refreshing change.

Not sure if this has been flagged before, but over on the 'book of faces' there is an active Facebook page on Irish Atlantics
