Does anybody know if there are any Ferrari 126 C2's left on planet Earth? Were they all converted to 126 C2B or C3's for the 1983 season? It's a shame if there are none left because it was one of the most beautiful Ferrari's ever. Certainly, I don't think there are any early season 126 C2's left with the extended bodywork over the front suspension.

I can't remember if the Autocourses covering 1982 and 1983 had chassis logbooks? That would help answer how many were converted.

I don't think so - that strange, ultra-short nose made it one of the more ugly Ferraris to me......
There are so many Ferraris that are much more beautiful than that - even only in F1. The drivers though - that's another story.

Many of those were destroyed in accidents: 055 and 056 both by Pironi at LeCastellet, 058 by Villeneuve at Zolder, 060 by Pironi at Hockenheim. 062, 063, 064 and 065 were rebuilt as 126C2s, 057, 059 and 061 should still exist in original spec (?).

Thats my point...because of all of the accidents during 1982 i'm wondering if there are any left. I know that for winter testing prior to the 1983 season, Ferrari used 126C2's that were butchered. Over time, i've seen pretty much all of the Ferrari's since the mid-70's in magazines, historic meetings or musems. Can't seem to find the 126C2 though. It strange, because of all of the dramatic events that occured in '82, I would have thought it would be a popular Ferrari to display for nostalgia.

Saw 061 this week at the Nurburgring during the Modena Motorsport Track Days. The carbon rear wing does not look period, does it?

I think your right. Even the Long Beach "Leg Pull) rear wing was ali', and I cannot recall seeing a carbon rear wing on a C2. That must be a que for a picture to appear showing one!

you're right, front/rear wings are not the original ones and made of a carbon fibre which didn't exist in period, the nose seems also a bit strange but all in all it was great to see it on track. This is chassis N° 61 :

Nearly a decade later and we've found one! Yes the nose and the rear wing and rear wing profile are clearly not original but still...

The number 27 also seems like a poor imitation of the orginal in terms of size and positioning + the red above the skirts?

Nice photo anyhow!

Off topic, does Patrick Tambay still own a 126 C3?
