Vern Schuppan 1973 BRM

this wasnt an almost move - Schuppan had signed for BRM in 1973 as 'cub' driver, whatever that was meant to be, only to have the seat pulled from under him when Lauda signed to drive the third car with his invisible sponsorship. Schuppan did drive for the team at the Race of Champions after Regazzoni was sidelined with burns after his S.A Gp shunt.

In his autobiography Innes said that he had offers from BRM for both 1960 and 1962. He turned down the first offer because he felt that staying with Lotus was the better bet, and the second because he had already verbally agreed to join BRP and didn't want to go back on his word.

One question. Did Patrick Tambay have opportunities to drive in formula 1 for 1980 ?

Is there any truth to the rumor that Bernie almost got Piquet to come back just after Imola 1994?

Last week's Autosport said that Renault couldn't get Pironi out of his Tyrrell contract for 1979, so gave Arnoux the second drive.

Would his feet have been up to it?

I am not sure, I read a wild story on another forum about Nelson and Bernie.

Something along the lines of that Nelson played a bit of a hoax on Bernie and led him along. I never got confirmation if it was true or not.

Minardi and Senna talkes about joining together in the early 90s. Minardi wanted to know what's possible with his cars, Minardi wasn't that bad in those days. And Minardi and Senna's father Milton da Silva were good friends.

THAT would have been the move of the century.

Pedro Chaves had a contract with March for the 1992 F1 season but ran out of sponsor money and so Wendlinger filled in the seat.

driving which car? Eiffelland as a team did not appear until the following year as a means of keeping Rolf Stommelin in F1 with a customer March 721. In 1971 they were a sponsor of Stommelen at Surtees.

Watching the highlights of the 1983 Long Beach GP last night - and what a race that was, easy to forget how much those cars slid, and how the drivers then were able to cope with scattered broken down cars at the trackside without needing full course show cars to get them shifted - James Hunt mentioned that Watson needed a good result over Lauda, as there had been whispers that Alan Jones was tabbed for the no. 7 McLaren.  I hadn't heard that rumour at all.

Actually, Werner drove for Eifelland (one "f", it's not about the tower ;)) in the 1970 German Prix, and finished second! :)
