Greetings,

Have I just seen one of the most fabulous tracks... the Schleizer Dreick. The motorcycle show "Motobike" on DSF showed a bit of coverage of the annual IDM race at the track, which is located near Plauen in Germany.

Here's a bit of text from motorvision.de about the track.

To paraphrase, the German motorbike championship is for the last time the guest on the traditional Schleizer Dreieck. In 1998 it celebrated its 75 anniversary--thus it is the oldest natural course of Germany. On 6.81 km, 22 curves make the driving a real challenge.

Anyway, this course is very Spa like, a track that uses real streets and has its front stretch actually run through a town. It is very high speed, but also has two hairpins. The reason the IDM is racing here for the last time is because of a lack of safety... I wish I'd have a track map... but believe me when I say this place is fantastic.

Now... who has heard of this track, and why isn't it famous? Have any of the major series ever raced here before?

Just found a track map:

Sadly it's been much reduced in length over the last few years with a new start finish straight that starts with a left hander just after Seng, cuts across country and joins the old track roughly where the 2nd stand after the s/f of the old circuit is shown on the map. Prior to this the circuit had already been shortened with a link bypassing Schleiz town itself.
