Man, I had a very short sleep before I came back here, some weird form of numbness has settled in. The TV is still totally covering recen events, new updates, etc. It all starts sounding like some doomsday mantra.

i know what you mean.. i "slept" with the TV on...

FYI, i happen to be Palestinian.
And no im not happy nor proud of what the ppl are doing in the homeland(that i have never been to) with what has happened....heck i was in NY 2 years ago, and anything could have happened to any1 at anyday.

But the US have way too many enemies at the moment. Iraq, Palestine, Syria, Lybia, somw would say China....the list could go on and on.
And u cant just blame a whole country as it is.

Dont worry, ppl arent running around happy about whats happened...but in general the majority of the Arab ppl dont like the ways of the American government, but thats just politics talk.

the US has made so many enemies such as Iraq, Vietnam, Syria hate them, Palestine, Yugoslavia hate them for bullying them and having those sanctions set. I mean what do u expect??? Sooner or later ppl cant take it anymore and explode from anger. Look at the **** thats going on in Palestine/Israel. Its worse than the Japanese Kamikaze pilots from WW2 cuz these ppl are absolutely defensless and are blowing themselves up in Israeli territories from anger and hatred of being occupied since 1948.

And in the end, a Japanese Red Army organization have claimed that they did the attack in the US in revenge for the Hiroshima boming from WW2.

I got 2 emails from the head boss of EDS(company i work for) and 1 from Dow Chemicals(company im contracted to by EDS) that all scheduled flights of employees are banned Domestic and International around the world until further notice. Pretty bizzare huh?
Both are US based Corps.
I just dont know what this world is comming to.

The story behind the Gulf War and Iraq invading Kuwait is way beyond u and I and what we know.

Ive heard so many things about that war that it was a set up for Iraq by the US. Turns out that they(the US) were planning for it to happen since the mid 80s, and it was the US that was inspiring Iraq to do it, thus helping the American Economy get higher and higher. Another thing is, that Iraq claims that Kuwait land was part of Iraq a long time ago from the sumerian days. So where does this lead us to? Why is Israel allowed to waltz into Palesitine back in 48 and take the locals ppl houses and posetions and land?

The world is not fair and will never be. A World of Peace will never happen. Humans are selfish and thats our lesson in life, some try to improve it and others the opposite. Why do we have to assigned with an Identity based on where u were born? Hence my name in this BB.

U do know that not every1 is the same. Besides...Iraq alone had the land of Kuwait as part of it, and not a land that was ruled by Germans and Danes and Swedes.
Just cuz they didnt claim it back doesnt mean that Saddam didnt want to attack Kuwait(a very rich country and small) and add it back as a big assett.

Hey, thats life and the greed of some of us humans.

What I do not get - you think that occupying Kuwait by Iraq was justified and kicking them out of there was not? Like - "uhh people are bad, if one country occupies the other, well, bad things happen, sorry, cope with it!" - something like that, eh? What a nice point of view.

When he went into Kuwait, half the country was empty. It was planned pretty good. The Prince ran away as soon as he heard the news that Iraqi tanks are entering, and their airforce pilots took off and instead of fighting them, they ran to Saudi Arabia.

Now my point is that if America does defend freedom and all internationally, why are they siding with the Israelis?
dont give me that cope with it bullshit otherwise what has happened to Kuwait doesnt work out with ur theories.

Exactly.
but then again, he might have been bad into making decisions at some point in life, but ppl change.

Force Ten, obviously u r bringing things that arent related to what im saying to u. I didnt say North Korea and South Korea or anything like it.
Im saying Iraq decided to take over Kuwait and add it to its land on the Map. Wether they liked it or not, i dont think that anything could have changed Saddams mind.
Some ppl are insane and do things that hurt others...but there are others who are sane, see innocent dieing and are capable of stopping the war yet do nothing due to greed.

Back to my main point which is to explain to u why those kids were dancing in the streets. U said it ur self that the US have done plenty of bad things themselves. So wouldnt u expect these ppl in Palestine to feel that something has happened to those who help their enemies?
Ppl in Palestine are dieing everyday. Kids that are younger than u and me are fighting against an army of US carrying Weapons. What do u expect them to do? go and cry for the Americans??? I think not. I havent seen 1 american do a thing to help any Palestinian, or feel sympathy for these ppl that are dying for their freedom.

I think its time to end this argument....ive had enough for 1 day and i have alotta things to get back to doing.

I believe this is a bad reality check for most americans, the americans believed their nations was invulnerable to terrorist attacks and that hey could kick anybody's ass....
not anymore

Is the 1st time in 2 years (that's how long I've been in the US) that I see the college kids with worried faces.

you needed to plant at least 3 persons/plane at flights leaving at same time. All of them bound to CA so that they'll be full of gas and cause more damage by fire.
So 4 pilots, 8 gunmen and a lot of determination and suicidal beliefs.... not too hard to find in several parts of the world.

I have a question, does anybody know if a pilot trained to fly a fighter can fly an airliner?

What will retaliation give you?
just the comfort of having kicked ass?
or more enemies, anger and blood spilled?

I think ou shouldn;t strike a whole country, just those few mother ****** than planned and executed this attack

Right now we don't know where the enemy is. OK City was an internal enemy. First WTC was external. Hopefully, we'll find out who this enemy is soon and retaliate appropriately against them and those that gave them aid and comfort.

I was granted access to the paddock club by Bira to express my condolences to everybody affected by this unbelievable act of terror in the US.

As I know there quite a few Americans on this board I hope that no one got hurt.

Yesterday evening in Germany, thousands of people went outside their houses to pray for the victims and their families and silently demonstrate against yesterday's events.

Everybody was extremely shocked but also determined to stand by the US in these terrible times.

Thanx

George W. Bush, President of the United States

Good evening.

Today, our fellow citizens, our way of life, our very freedom came under attack in a series of deliberate and deadly terrorist acts.

The victims were in airplanes or in their offices -- secretaries, businessmen and women, military and federal workers. Moms and dads. Friends and neighbors.

Thousands of lives were suddenly ended by evil, despicable acts of terror.

The pictures of airplanes flying into buildings, fires burning, huge structures collapsing, have filled us with disbelief, terrible sadness and a quiet, unyielding anger.

These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat. But they have failed. Our country is strong. A great people has been moved to defend a great nation.

Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.

America was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining.

Today, our nation saw evil, the very worst of human nature, and we responded with the best of America, with the daring of our rescue workers, with the caring for strangers and neighbors who came to give blood and help in any way they could.

Immediately following the first attack, I implemented our government's emergency response plans. Our military is powerful, and it's prepared. Our emergency teams are working in New York City and Washington, D.C., to help with local rescue efforts.

Our first priority is to get help to those who have been injured and to take every precaution to protect our citizens at home and around the world from further attacks.

The functions of our government continue without interruption. Federal agencies in Washington which had to be evacuated today are reopening for essential personnel tonight and will be open for business tomorrow.

Our financial institutions remain strong, and the American economy will be open for business as well.

The search is underway for those who are behind these evil acts. I've directed the full resources for our intelligence and law enforcement communities to find those responsible and bring them to justice. We will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them.

I appreciate so very much the members of Congress who have joined me in strongly condemning these attacks. And on behalf of the American people, I thank the many world leaders who have called to offer their condolences and assistance.

America and our friends and allies join with all those who want peace and security in the world and we stand together to win the war against terrorism.

Tonight I ask for your prayers for all those who grieve, for the children whose worlds have been shattered, for all whose sense of safety and security has been threatened. And I pray they will be comforted by a power greater than any of us spoken through the ages in Psalm 23: "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me."

This is a day when all Americans from every walk of life unite in our resolve for justice and peace. America has stood down enemies before, and we will do so this time.

None of us will ever forget this day, yet we go forward to defend freedom and all that is good and just in our world.

Thank you. Good night and God bless America

To all friends, patriots and allies of America,

I have just looked in to this BB, expecting to find a 1000 posts. I wasn't too far off.

I understand your anger, your hate, your wantonness for revenge.

Justice is coming.

This afternoon, I have found out that a cousin is safe... She was to fly from Newark to L.A. this afternoon. Her plane never took off. This hits close to home. For everyone.

To RedFever, and everyone who echoes his thoughts and words... Do not listen to how our President "sounds", rather, listen to what he said. Read his words. He will not let this go unpunished... The repercussions will be felt for months, perhaps years to come. The threat of a world recession looms. America has been permanently scared. No amount of eloquence in speech will stand up to this horror. There will be a lot to account for, the breach of security after we spend 29 billion a year on intelligence for one. There will plenty of time for that. We have other priorities right now.

There is a New World Order coming. Today was the start of that new order.

Ross, let your Avatar keep dancing for freedom, for it is still with us.

God Bless America. God Bless Americans. and may God help those who trespass against us.

It's midnight, and I can finally find the calm to post. I'm in Singapore, but home is NYC. Have been trying my loved ones in NYC and Virginia, and have finally got through. I'm not sure I can completely believe all that has happened. It is on a biblical scale.
Back in March, I went to Bhuj, India, with a collection from family, several colleagues and friends. It was a whole city that turned into rubble in minutes. People turned up alive a fortnight later. All I can say is people have an amazing will and courage at a time like this. My thoughts are with every fellow-American today.
Be it war or terrorism, justified or unjustified, right or wrong - the casualty is always the ordinary man.

Though the level of organisation going into these attacks points to Osama & Co., we have to remember that immediately after the Oklahoma bombing, everyone assumed it was an Arab attack. Some Palestinians were even detained at airports, and it turned out that the perpetrator was a home-grown terrorist.

Eye for an eye would just hurt more innocent civilians. The culprits - be they terrorists or Governments, usually get away. This is the time to use a cool head and find leads to the real perpetrators, before any action is taken. Macho retaliatory attacks are not going to make the US any less vulnerable to a small-unit terrorist attacks. The damage to our invincible image has been done. And a rash retaliation by this administration will look hollow and without substance.
I am no fan of The Shrub, but no administration can come out looking good after this one. Whatever they choose to do will look inadequate. It's a no-win situation.

Because their loved ones die everyday thanks to the Israelis. (I am not anti-Jew, one side of my family is Armenian Jewish, my boyfriend is Jewish). This may not be the appropriate time to discuss the politics of it all, but USA's support for Israel inspite of Israel reneging on several valid International Peace Treaties has lead us to this day when we watch elderly, sensible-looking Palestinian women rejoicing in the streets. Just as we feel like rage and want to kill someone today - that is how that motherly-looking woman celebrating on the streets, has been feeling for a long, long time. :(

And one should not think of some sights of celebration as representative of a whole people. I have spent a long time in Asia making documentaries, and no issue is that simple.

It is feasible that the Lashkar -e-Toiba have taken credit for this. It is one of many so-called freedom fighting terrorist groups waging a proxy war in the Indian part of Kashmir. Many such groups are helped and financed by Afghans & Osama in Pakistan. The chain goes like this - Lashkar-e-Toiba to Afghan sympathy - to Pakistan's aid to the Taliban Govt. - to Taliban harbouring good ole Osama. :(
Remember the Indian Airlines plane hijacked and taken to Afghanistan? The Taliban talked the terrorists into giving up the hostages, but only after India released some dissidents in Kashmir.
The Taliban are renouncing any claims since Bush has very clearly stated that terrorists and their host countries will be given the same harsh treatment.
It's an interesting situation. Will the Taliban finally give Osama up. It's difficult, as Osama funded and aided them in their freedom fight against Russian occupation in the eighties.
The **** never ends.:(

Bill Clinton's attempts to broker a peace accord was very commendable. But after the assassination of Rabin, there were no visionary Israeli leaders that he could deal with anymore.

But the fact remains that when it comes to the crunch, USA will never go against the Israelis because of the Jewish vote bank back home. Even though the Israeli leaders after Rabin, have violated every single valid International Peace Treaty, violated deadlines of freedom for Palestine, retaliated with aerial bombings on Palestinian settlements in reply to localised Palestinian attacks, built Israeli settlements in Palestinian areas even tho' they had made official , signed promises that they would not do so. The fact remains that the Palestinians stayed relatively calm, placing their faith in the Oslo Treaty, only to see it dismissed and violated completely by Israeli leaders. Israelis have incited Palestinians into anger by building such settlements and then very conveniently kept saying that Palestine terrorism must end, even when there was none taking place.

Can you imagine the pain and anger of a people who were robbed of their own land, and have been conned by a US-backed Israel for so many years?
I am American, I am part Jew, but I don't admire America's dodgy stand on Israel's questionable stance. I am on the side of justice, and there has been none for the Palestinians. America and Israel stand alone in this stance today. Even America's allies like Germany, France, and other European countries have supported the validity of a Palestinian nation, and feel that Israel are oppressors.

Hilary Clinton 's heart was in the right place when she once spoke out against Netanyahu's hypocrisy, and said Palestine deserve their freedom.
Back to my original thought. USA earns the wrath of the Palestinian people and their sympathisers because they know that it is the Jewish vote that keeps US on the side of Israel.:(

I kinda think that the nice people in Kuwait didn't share Saddam's and apparently also your (sorry if I am wrong) view about "one country, one people".

There were plenty of people still there to be executed in prisons, so it couldn't have all been empty.

Not all the things the Americans do are nice, lo and behold, far from it... The CIA has definitely committed terrible attrocities. But you do not see them coming into Meka (don't know the correct spelling in English) and start bomming people on the pilgrimage. There are things and there are things... What Americans do doesn't even begin to be in the same ballpark as of what was done to them yesterday.

I agree. No one deserves this kind of inhumanity wreaked on them. But the USA has earned it's enemies, no question. The list of interferences are endless. The CIA playing king maker with several South and Central American countries, supporting a tyrannical but West-loving Shah of Iran, building up and supplying the monster that is Saddam, while he was waging his Iraq-Iran war - just because US was anti-Iran at the time.:( The list is a long one.
The rest of the world question why America ever got into the Gulf war. They didn't need Arab oil, like the European countries did.
Ironically, the US owed the UN millions of dollars for waging that war. A bill that the Republican congress refused to acknowledge for term after term. So before anyone thinks the US was footing that Gulf War bill, they are sadly mistaken.

A I said in another post, their current support of a hard-line Israeli Govt. does them no favours, considering that every other freedom-loving European country condemns Israel for their severe occupation of Palestine today, and their repeated violations of treaties and promises that were set up with several European countries in attendance..
Israel feeds off this unquestioning support from the US. If the US would perform an act of true conscience (in Palestine) like they did in saving Kosovo, then Israel would not be the oppressive power that it now is in that region.

A harsh thought on a day like this.:(

I just can't understand what brings someone to doing this. This is stunning and can't be accepted. My support goes to every US poster on this forum. I just feel like I could awake any moment. Just so unbelievable. I am deeply shocked.

I have heard that one anonymos person has revendicted the acts for the Japnese Red Army, as an act of vengeance for the deaths from Hiroshima and Nagaski.

What has happened today is shocking and tragic. This could be a turning point in world history. It`s so... unbelievable, like a movie. I can only hope that the guilty ones will be found, punished and such things avoided in the future. But it is important that only the REAL ones will. It is so easy in such situations to overreact, to find guilty people where there are none. These kind of situation can bring the best and the worst in human nature. I hope it wil be the best.
This is the tragedy of the US ,as well as that of the entire humanity, of everyone who beleve that words such as civilization ,evolution and goodness have a meaning.
