Giacomo Agostini in Formula 2...

I believe that it was in 1976, anybody has information or some documentation about the subject? Thank you ... :)

I remember that it was with Marlboro backing if I am correct. Believe he ran a March...

He ran a Chevron most of his "F2 Career" but the last race was in a March powered by BMW. The same guys that own Dieter Questor's old March/BMW F2, own Ago's and it was at Road Atlanta for the spring historics. More at: http://8w.forix.com/ago.html

Agostini appeared in 12 Formula 2 Races during 1978, largely in a Trivellato Racing Chevron B42, but also one appearance in a San Remo Racing March 782. He was specatacularly unsuccessful....usually failing to qualify.
He also appeared in the British Aurora F1 Championship in 1979 and 1980, driving a David Price Racing Williams FW06.

On both occassions he was sponsored by Marlboro.

For detailed race results, take a look at Stefan Ă–rnerdal's Formula 2 Register.
This is the index for 1978:

Interesting subject. What's the consensus? Just too rich and too old to have the fire in his belly?

Thank you !
It is incredible that he was not more competitive in formula 2, I did not know that he had run in the championship aurora, he knew a little more success ... :
Thank you for all this information ! ;)

In the British AURORA F1/F2 series he was a little bit more succesful.
In 2 seasons 1979 and 1980 he collected 6 podium finishes, his best a second place in Snetterton 1979. All those races in the Williams.

Wow, great shot, Dolomite! Any more like that? You seem to have caught Christopher Biggins in Santa's workday suit...

but...

I've got a load more pix from this and a couple of other Aurora races, which I've been gradually scanning with a view to maybe sticking them on a web site at some point.

Thanks ! Beautiful photo, I believe that Ago did not use his helmet with the famous colours for this series...

Ago also raced in the non-championship F1 race at Imola in '79 - Lauda's last victory before hanging up his helmet for the first time.

This is at the final Aurora round at Silverstone in 1980. Ago seems to have made a good start!

I have never seen these pics , Thank you!
It is pity this white helmet... Seriously I think that Agostini (as Surtees, Hailwood, Ivy) had the talent to succeed in car... He certainly began too late... ?

Anyone know anything about this film?

Here's a link in Italian: http://www.mondocult...oreformula2.htm.
This film doesn't include much racing car scenes as it's nothing but a musical.

Giacomo acted into 2 other pictures: "Bolidi sull'asfalto, a tutta birra" and "Formula 1 , nell'inferno del Grand Prix".
Some time ago I watched the second one and it seemed to me a bad clone of Jonh Frankenheimer "Grand Prix".

In 1971 Ago won his 9th and 10th World Champion titles. It's the time when he started to think about racing cars. He tried conclusively a F2 Ferrari but his passion for the two-wheels prevailed...

That what I've read in a motorbike book called Les As du Continental circus

Now I would like to know whid model did he tried ? A F2 Dino ? When and where did it occur ?

Marc,

Diving into my '60s & '70s "Sport-Auto" collection for another theme, I've just stumbled across with a picture of Giacomo Agostini at the wheel of a Frank Williams' Politoys-March, published in October 1971... so, besides the Ferrari, "Ago" did testing with Williams by mid-71.

If it is NOT the same picture as the one posted by Rainer about two years ago then we will have closed the circle ;)

FĂ©lix,

I'm pretty sure the man on the picture posted by Rainer is "Ago". Anyway, the picture I have is another, and shows Agostini "into" the car and with the helmet on.
