too long legs to be jacques Laffite ! Lelouch said it was him, perhaps he lie, but at his death maybe we will know. The car is a 6.9 Mercedes that's the fact. the street in Paris are too bumpy for a Ferrari !

Last night I watched on Dutch TV a documentary on Claude Lelouch, directed by Stéphane Krausz. It portraid Lelouch pretty well and mentioned his first movies that gave him such a disastrous debut as well as his great succes movies: "Un homme et un femme" and "Les uns et les autres". I awaited eagerly to learn more about "C'etait une Rendez-Vous". To no avail. It wasn't even mentioned. Still Lelouch was described as a man with a passion for speed, especially with cars. As a boy he already was fascinated by (fast) cars. He explained that he liked to speed as it gave hime more time later to do other things. It always fascinated him. In the documentary he was also shown driving his car and to my interpretation he is no mean driver, at least he is not affraid to high speeds in narrow alleys. This leads me to think he drove his Mercedes himself to shoot this short movie.

The end of the movie we should also understand as typically Lelouch: a meeting between two lovers. A repetitive characteristic in his work as he fully believes in the relationship with a woman (he was married thrice).

Also shown were reels from his 1964 movie "24 heures d'amant". Partly with shots from the 1963 Le Mans 24 hours.

I'm not sure if unraveling these mysteries is good or not but if anybody wants to read the actual facts (driver, conditions, speeds), everything is uncovered at Claude Lelouch's site by the man himself:

I copied the above link into my browser, but it didn't work
So I did a search for 'lesfilms' and got something entirely different

I clicked on the link, and it took me straight to the Claude Lelouch site, with not a single lesbian in evidence along the way. It has to be said though that there isn't a single thing on that site that hasn't been covered exhaustively in this thread, and others on the general Rendezvous theme. I bought the DVD years ago, and my opinion is that it's an over-rated bit of mildly entertaining nonsense, I've never been able to understand why Nigel Roebuck among others rates it so highly. A clever bit of cinematography, a clever bit of fakery, and a clever and amazingly successful bit of self promotion by Lelouch, but not much more than that.

Finally got the DVD and saw it for the first time. Interesting bit of history although I wish the truth about the film was still a mystery.
