Rob

Which Robin Smith are you talking about ? The Scottish one who was of a later period or the Liverpool one who had a Lister-Maserati. If the latter he came to Rest and Be Thankful Hill Climb around 1956 with the car.

The TVR may well have been entered by Ian Munn who was a Scottish enthusiast but cannot think why. I attended that meeting when I was sports editor of Motor World magazine hence the photo.

Graham,

I understand from the Lister thread the Robin Smith I'm interested in had a Lister Maserati.

I've not come across Ian Munn before but as you say he may have been a local Scottish enthusiast. Interestingly an early TVR open sports was found on a farm somewhere in Scotland and was restored in 1990's by an Andrew Houston.

Regards

Rob

In response to RobMk2A's interest in Brian Naylor, I understand that Brian was father-in-law to my MG Car Club colleague Paul Goodman, and was a director Cockshoots, Manchester.

I'm assured by a mutual friend that Paul is approachable regarding Brian Naylor, you'll find his email address in this link I've sent to you regarding your interest in Ted Lund on another thread Rob

Some pics of the JBW at Goodwood in 2013 and 2015.  Charismatic motor.

Found it! Here is a link to a Forix page on the JBW:

http://www.forix.com/8w/jbw.html

and it says:

"...'JB' were Naylor's initials and 'W' stood for Wilkinson..."

Vince H.

Can any one confirm what JBW stood for - I have just acquired a race programme for Oulton Park 1st Oct 1960 and on the front cover the Lotus VIII or X registered JBW 648 (quick google shows it still exists). https://www.flickr.c...03/32827479677/

Is this Brian Naylor's Lotus and hence the JBW.

I'm assuming John Brian Wilkinson, from the two names (Brian's first name was John).

Seems - Naylor's Lotus VIII Connaught was registered JBN 1 (which may be a spoof number) so probably not JBW 648. - As you were!

JBW is an Oxfordshire registration issued in 1955.  JBW 648 was on the Scott-Russell Mk X fitted with a Bristol engine.  Not the same car as Brian Naylor's VIII which is currently registered KJA 91..
