These beautiful cars raced a little before my time so I don't know much about them. I'm interested in the specifics of the photos (driver & date & venue, etc.) and in the many detail differences between the two cars. Here's the link:

Thanks for your help!!! Tam McPartland

Briefly, and I'm afraid not very specifically....
The DB3S was built in two series. The first lot, numbered 1-10, were built for the works team between 1953 and 1956 and during the last two years a production run numbered 101-120 was added.
Carveth raced a production model (DB3S/104) 1956-58 and this was also driven by several other drivers, including Flaherty, Laws, Barneson and Wells.
In 1957 he added a second car, which was actually the last built, and numbered DB3S/11 because it was a continuation of the works-spec run (twin-plug head, disc brakes etc) rather than a production type.
During 1956 two of the works cars (and possibly more?) had been updated with the wider and flatter nose as seen in the pictures of car #54. Carveth's second car (DB3S/11) was also given this treatment.
I would guess that your pictures show the two Carveth cars in 1957 or 1958

A DB3 at Le Mans. Unfortunately I don't have any further information about it.

Oops - yes. Just a typo.

BTW, does someone know driver's name and year by any chance?

Nice point - but what looks like the ENB D-Type Jaguar - background - would not have been present in 1954.

#16 was allocated in 1954 and 1957 to an ENB Jaguar

In 1954, a C-type Jaguar, drivers Roger Laurent / Jacques Swaters, 4th
In 1957, a D-type Jaguar, drivers Paul Frère, Freddy Rousselle, 4th

I have a picture of a DB 3S that I took in the paddock at Brands Hatch on May 19, 1957. My notes on the picture say that it was owned by T. Atkins and driven by Graham ???, plus that it was ex. Gilby.

Does any one have any more information about the entrant, driver and the Gilby connection? Which chassis number was it?

The registration number, 9046H, identifies it.

Martin Krejki identifies it as DB3S/5.

Ownership: Aston Martin Ltd. => Gilbey Engineering (1956) => Tommy Atkins (1957) => D. Barthel (late 1957/58) => Rose (1962) => Clive Aston (1963) => Bill Lake (1982)

Brief history: Originally David Brown's personal road car. But taken on as Team car, debut Silverstone July 1954. In 1956 registered as 9046 H. Car was very successful in British national/international events. Mainly raced by Salvadori (1st Aintree twice and Silverstone) but also by Moss (1st Goodwood Easter) and Parnell. 5th Nurburgring 1000k Collins/Brooks. In 1957 was driven by Graham Hill and Peter Blond. In 1960 used in cinema film. Clive Aston registered it as PAP 625 and used in southern sprints/hill climbs and Aston Martin Owners Club events in 1963-78.

And in his British National races section he has the car being driven to 3rd place at Brands Hatch driven by none other than Graham Hill behind Peter Blond (HWM-Jaguar) and maurice Charles (Jaguar D-Type).

Can I once again recommend Martin Krejki's wsrp.ic.cz website to anyone wanting sports car racing information

Many thanks for all of that information so quickly. I didn't realise that Martin's site would use a registration number. I know now. I have a couple of other photos that I can search for now.
