He also tested an AGS If I remember well. Picture(s) maybe in a French magazine (Auto Hebdo for example).

Pironi's Ligier test was reported in the September 10, 1986 edition of Motoring News.

Although Didier Pironi followed up his recent run at the wheel of the new AGS with some laps in a Ligier JS27 at Dijon-Prenois the week before last, we understand that it would be very premature to conclude that the former Ferrari ace might be seen in a Ligier-Alfa next season.

Pironi did 40 laps at Dijon, although we understand that he never ran more than four consecutive laps at a time, the very fact that he was able to operate an F1 car without pain or discomfort is regarded as heartening, but he will have to lose about 7kg before he can be regarded as back in trim.

A further factor which may prevent Pironi's return to the team for which he drove throughout 1980 is Jacques Laffite's avowed determination to return to the cockpit in 1987. Jacques is now out of hospital and is living in a rented Paris flat from where he is doing up to five hours of intensive physiotherapy every day. It is hoped that he will walk again by the start of November.

Pironi's run in the AGS was reported in the August 20 edition.

Didier Pironi at last returned to the Formula 1 cockpit last week when he gave the new Motori Moderni-engined AGS Grand Prix challenger its preliminary shakedown runs at Paul Ricard. Ivan Capelli, who is scheduled to drive the car in his his race debut at Monza next month, was unavailable for this test and Pironi was invited to handle it on this outing.

The follwing week Motoring News had a photo of Pironi in the AGS and this coment on the Paul Ricard test.

During the Ricard test, engine problems prevented the Frenchman from setting any representative lap times, and there is already talk in the French press that the Motori Moderni V6 presently installed could be replaced by turbocharged Renault fare when the AGS races in a full GP programme next year.

Damn that AGS is an ugly car. Didn't Moreno end up driving it because Capelli joined March/Leyton House?

Moreno replaced Pascal Fabre in the lasts two races of 1987 season. He even scored a point with that! (in Adelaide)

And, yes, it's a damn ugly car.

Hy,

I was said that a french newspaper published pictures of Didier Pironi driving the Ligier at Dijon in 1986, but I can't find it. Anyone can help me ?

Futhermore, I am sure that a film about the formula one, with José Rosinski as narrator, presents this test with images of Pironi on board the Ligier.

AGS picked up a lot of Renault bits when their F1 chassis programme ended - far as I recall the first batch of AGS monocoques used in 86-8 were built around abandoned Renault tooling (some rumours say they actually used a Renault tub, but that'd be naughty, wouldn't it?;)). Various sources claim that the JH21 had Renault suspension and gearbox too...

The AGS test was also seen on TV at the time. Very short message. I was waiting for Didi to get into that promised Ferrari test....
